• Model 1 relative value

When the model series was new, was the model 1 the cheapest of the lot? If so, was it cheaper because it was considered entry level or was it just cheaper because it lacked expensive features like locking trems, etc.Would you say that the quality was the same as a model 4 or 6?

You're correct on all accounts. The quality was every bit that of the other model series.

So then it was just a matter of picking the features that you wanted. Like you would choose a model 1 over a 3 because you didnt want a 2 point trem and it would just happen to be cheaper to do it that way, but still equal in quality?

        exactly.

I remember a number of models being available when I bought my guitar in NYC in early 87. I wanted the one hum, so I got the Model 2. so much guitar, now so long ago!

Built in the same factory as the Model 2, 3, and 4 at least. The model 1 and variants are just as good as the others.

Yeah, all bolt on Model Charvels should have the same quality, no matter what tremolo or pickup combination they've got

What factory were the Model 5 and 6 built in then?

I used the words "at least" because they're probably all the same factory. But I admit I'm not 100% sure about that. I'm just speaking from a setup perspective. You'd obviously have to have a slightly different setup to do bolt-ons as compared to neck-thrus.

They are getting pretty pricy on EBAY lately too for that matter....
