Model 4 single coils

what single coils can i get that will fit into the neck and middle positions on an 86 model 4 without having to rout any wood out? I know some pickups have that triangular bit sticking out on the base of them eg duncans...

i had in mind summin with a bit of power to balance a bit with the alcino super distortion i have in the bridge - kinda lynch / malmsteen sounds here...

I can only speak for Duncans, but here goes: the new design "Li'l" humbuckers will fit in there as will the new Rail design humbuckers will fit also. Just watch out for the lead wire coming out the front of the pickup housing. You might have to scrape a little off the inside of the route to get it in there. Of the old Li'l/Rails pickups, all of the Li'l humbuckers and the Cool Rails will drop right in. The Hot Rails and Vintage Rails have the triangular lip. Of the true single coils, the SSL-3 Hot, SSL-4 Quarter Pound Flat, SSL-7 Quarter Pound Staggered, SSL-5 Custom Staggered, SSL-6 Custom Flat have the oval base that will drop right in.

I put a DiMarzio HS-3 in my 88 USA Jackson just cut the tab off.The wireing comes out of the base of the pickup its not soldered to the tab like some.

Not sure what you mean by your post but just cut the tab off the base plate.Be careful not to cut the wires.The base plate is plastic so it cuts easily.Screw holes line up perfectly.
Duncan makes some of their singles without the tab so check to see if they make what you need.
