as an owner of a model 2
why is it m1,m2 and so on are only worth little over $200
on ebay or its not really a good deal my guitar if setup
properly with either the stock pu or a decent aftermarket
    sounds and plays great
i challenge others to name a comparable"new"guitar for around $200 that is as good

    Re: model series

Just because they're old imports. It has nothing to do with the actual quality of the guitars

      Re: model series

I've seen several, including the one I bought push well over $250 on eBay. I have absolutely no regrets shelling out the $280 I paid for mine. I wish a Model series had been my first guitar. Then I wouldn't have had the hassle of buying and then selling four guitars trying to find what I liked and wanted.

        Re: model series

It's the same as with anything else. Supply & demand. There are quite a few available, except for certain specific models, and they aren't that well-known or popular with most folks currently looking for used guitars. There just aren't too many people interested in buying '80s - style shredder guitars right now, and there are millions of Ibanez & LTDs out there for sale too. Prices have been edging up a little, & I wouldn't be surprised if that was directly related to the word getting out as the JCF has grown. Even so, I agree 100% that there is almost nothing else out there with the same bang for the buck.

Dollar for dollar, it's hard to find a better guitar. Maybe the Kramer Pacer with the OFR, but that's about it.

            Re: model series

I think that rather than "supply and demand", guitar prices have a lot to do with "popularity" and "hype"...If the guys in Green Day, or any other "hot" act were to have a bunch of pictures taken with "Charvel" in "toothpaste" on the headstocks, you would see the prices "jump"! Already, I have seen the price of "charvel" chainsaw cases go up on Ebay....I bought four for less than $25.00 each and now they "close" at $50.00 or better ! I am waiting for model 3's with Kahlers to "take off"! I have three and for my money, (and I have owned tons of vintage guitars) - the model 3 is the"shit"....I can get the "stevie Ray V" sound out of all of them and clapton's "quack" and just tones of tone .....Why they sell for so little is amazing to me....but that will change when some Rock Star starts playing one again ! ! !

              Re: model series

Just to correct you, the Model series guitars are WORTH much more than they sell for.

color and config also matter, if you have a red mod 2 with maple fretboard it prob goes for over 300.

                  ??

If you have a red Model 2 with a maple fretboard, then you have a mutt. At this point the guitar is the sum of it's parts. I'm not sure about anyone else here, but I couldn't justify $300 for that.

                    Re: model series

Buy "cheap" Charvels and "cheap" Jacksons. Find the one you want and sell the rest. It's like fish. You catch a lot because bait is cheap. When you catch the whopper, hold the mayo, you throw all the others back.
I am a true ass set to this board.

                        Re: model series

so only Mod 3 came in "M" versions? Seems the few red good condition Mod 2 's on Ebay I paid attention to over the past year went for 300+, which is why I bowed out... the ones with maple FB must have been mutts...

hear you on the sum of the parts, if you dont value the time&labor...

                          Re: model series

No. Only the Model 4 had an "M" designation and the Model 1 and Model 7 had maple fretboards standard. (the Model 8 was optional, but it's a rarely-seen model)

I'm not sure what you mean by not valuing the time & labor. In this case I don't see the time & labor involved with putting a neck on a body that was practically made for it anyway. (made in the same factory on the same line) Charvel prices on eBay are inflated enough without thinking that just any chucklehead could command top dollar for the simplest of mods.
