Re: 750XL info

Also, check out the forums at http://www.seymourduncan.com/forum/

It's a great place to swap pickups until you find one you like. The folks there are forever looking for the perfect tone.

Yeah, I'm on there pretty frequently, too. It's a great place for all your pickup wants and desires.

Re: 750XL info

I just rewired how I do the coil split based on a thread in that forum. Now when I split both pickups and and use the switch in the middle for both neck/bridge - which is how I usually play anyway - it's a lot quieter. The tone is the same but the noise floor dropped right out. Best 10 minute upgrade I've seen yet. Thanks guys!!

Re: 750XL info

I just got my 750xl a couple of days ago, courtesy of Model88. Wow, what an amazing guitar--easily the best-sounding J/C I've ever owned, and that includes a couple of San Dimas Soloists. But then, I've always liked the sound of Les Pauls, and this one resembles that but with little of the upper-mid "honk" that LPs can have. Other 750/AT Pros that I've played have had Floyds, and I had no idea how good this model could sound with a TOM bridge. Wow, again. I may keep the J80C in the bridge, since it seems to work pretty well in this guitar, unlike in the Model 5s I've owned. Anyway, here are a few pictures. The second pic shows how nice the flame on this one is, which isn't true of all of 'em. And the third pic is my attempt to show how "three-dimensional" the flame is on this particular one--it's almost unreal looking at it up close while playing the guitar, but it doesn't necessarily translate into photos.

Yessiree, that's a nice one. I wouldn't have minded having 2 trans red and 2 cherry sunbursts. But I don't think people around here would have liked me to much.

That is nice, how many does that make for you now? You are getting quite the collection. I've always been partial to red guitars, the deeper the better. I always think I want a black one but then come home with a red one. You should send that one over to me so I can more closely inspect the flame! Yeah, yeah, that's it, inspect the flame, yeah that sounds good, for like a year or ten But seriously, that is one fine addition to your collection, congrats.

That's my only 750xl, and one of my five guitars. My collection is pretty modest compared to some folks around here. I don't have the room to have much more than that.

Nice 750. I like the string-thru AT Pro a little better, personally, but the 750's a damn nice guitar. Just don't stand up with it...

At the moment. It may go to six when I get a 12-string sometime in the next few months, or maybe I will consolidate down to one 7-string. I've basically stopped played Floyds altogether, so I could probably lose guitars with those and not cry too much over it, though I have no plans to get rid of my ESP. I hate Floyds now but love that guitar dearly. It all sorta depends on what tempts me on eBay, as you know.

Mine isn't that heavy, really. Not dramatically heavier than my other guitars except for the DK27, which is very light. I estimate it weighs one or two lbs. more than your Soloist-7.

I haven't played a string-thru AT Pro, so I can't compare them, but this 750 has a LOT of Les Paul in its sound, and I would be loathe to lose any of the mahogany just for the sake of saving a little weight. I kind of like heavy guitars, anyway.

Congrats on a great score there, my friend, that 750XL is a beauty and had I not snatched up that Jackson archtop, I would have brought that one home to me-

I think a floyd equiped AT pro is sometime in my future over the 750 just because of the weight and body thickness. Of course after I save up the money for it I will probably just buy the first of either I see for a fair price to hold me over until I see the one that really does it for me. Which is the same excuse I used on myself to get the bolt on fusion that's currently being shipped to me It's a 24.75 scale guitar with a recessed floyd and will hold me over until the AT pro. I still prefer fixed bridges for most of the time but you have to at least a couple floyds laying around right? Or at least that's another thing I keep telling myself. Besides now I can finally get rid of my old Kramer because the only reason I have it is the floyd - and I need to replenish my 0 balance guitar fund

I have never seen an AT pro other then in Catalogs, eons
ago, thats a nice guitar, Also on the 750XL the 5 Way Blade switch is not the standard switch and has custom wiring, with the Factory Pick ups, the Factory Pick-up were awesome however not that loud, I remember changing mine for duncan zebra's 59-JB, Didn't like it, and put the originlas back, Thanks to the Customer support of those techs in Akai, the sent me via fax wiring diagrams of those guitars. So I was able to put i back the way it was.. To the other user that was inquiring...If you can find a descent 750XL grab it, you will not be dissapointed at all, the 750 with the original factory 5 way switch and pick up would dial in awesome Les Paul tones.
