• Pickups in Model 4???

Hi, I'm a noob here. I used to own a Charvel, which I'm pretty sure was a Model 4. In a moment of stupidity, I sold it. I really liked the tone I got from it. Does anyone know what model those Jackson pickups were? It was 1 humbucker and two singles. I'm not sure if the singles were hum cancelling or not.

I'm going to try n' get them on ebay for my project guitar. But if I can't find them, does anyone know of Duncan/DiMarzio single coil pickups which might give me a similar tone to the singles in the Charvel Model 4?

Thanks

J50BC humbucker and 2 J200 stacked humbuckers (single coil size). The model 4 also had an on-board active preamp with mid-boost that was a large part of its sound. I can't remember the model number of the preamp, but I'm sure someone else will chime in.

Jackson pickups have a unique sound that's hard to find in anything but Jackson pickups. Luckily they regularly come up on Ebay. I was never a fan of the J50BC/J200 combo, but I really like the J90C and J95 hums running without any active electronics.

the preamp in the model 4 and model 6 was the JE1200 mid boost system.

Do you think I could simulate the mid boost by using an EQ pedal/amp settings? Or does it have to come from the guitar?

That looks like it may be a nice deal...I have a question about the neck? My Model 4 has the dot inlays...did the later ones come with the "shark fin" inlays...or were they relatively random?

Dots = 1986
Sharkfins = 1987-1988

What explains for the Model 4 with a JT-6 with Dots?

Model 2 or 3 neck?

Re: Pickups in Model 4???

Possibly, because everything we have in documentation tells us that if it had a JT-6, the neck was either a rosewood fretboard with sharkies or a maple fretboard with black dots.

I had a Model 4 with JT-6, rosewood and dots. But I don't have it anymore It got stolen from my house in '90.

New @ Steve's Music Toronto around '87-88. it was black-of course. Maybe a Canadian only model?(i doubt it)

I guess there were a few that slipped through the cracks if maxboost's guitar indeed was bought new.

I am assuming the Model 4 I posted above from Ebay that sold was probably a swapped neck then, right?

Seems strange someone would go through the trouble of swapping a neck just for the sharkies.

I guess there may have been a few transitional guitars. If the one on eBay is not original, it's possible that it was a 4M and swapped it for the maple fretboard. (I had a 4M that I've snagged the neck for a Model 2)

Documentation is very important. And the only documentation we have is the catalogs. If certain features weren't listed in a catalog, then generally it's safe to say that it could have been modified. That's not to say that there wasn't either a transition guitar or an undocumented variation but if there's no documented proof of it, it would be hard to confirm.
