• Journeyman, new look

I sanded off the gobs of clear coat on this and tung oiled it. I put in a Dimarzio and gold knobs/pickup ring. Sounds and feels much better. Tuned to C, aaaaarrrrrrrgh!

That looks sweet! Needs a gold bridge though.

That needs a gold floyd. Tung oil look looks nice.

          Re: Journeyman, new look

Was that guitar originally painted or was there some natural finish on it? I've toyed with the idea of just stripping and tung oiling my Model 7, but I have no idea what the wood looks like under all the paint.

This model was natural but there was a TON of clear coat on it. I used a heat gun and knifed the finish of, tough job.

              Nice.

Unfortunately, i can't seem to get into these models. I've seen a few of them in music stores and pawn shops. I've even played a couple. But the thing that disappoints me is a 24-fret, bolt-on neck with a dinky body. To me, that's basically another Jackson. Maybe I've got too many of the model series Charvels to be objective.

I agree, I bought it because it was an inexpensive risk and had good components. I don't like the 24 fret neck either but the long scale allows me to tune to C easily. My model 2 gets a lot more play!

Remember this one? I keep it 440 for teaching, has the tweed case! Hey, quick question. I am looking for a model 3a but from 86' because I like the pick guard. Think I'll find one?

I saw one in a shop here in Chicago on Monday. It was in rough shape though.

Very cool man, gold hardware on natural finished guitars always looks great.

Is it hard to sand all the paint off of a guitar I've never tried it bout often thought of doing it?

Its pretty tough, I like the heat gun but practice on something first. Too hot and you burn the wood and have to sand it out. The heat gun will make the paint bubble off the wood, follow with a puddy knife scapping the paint off. Once you get the hang of it its not too bad. Then start the fine sanding into tung oiling. I do 3-4 coats, each buffed after 5-20 minutes after appliction.
