As for the pickup question:
If you want a mid-hump, forget the EMGs. If you must go with EMG, get the 85 instead of the 81. The Duncan Distorion has a very sweet mid spike, but it may lack the bass response you want. I can recommend the DiMarzio X2N as well - High output, and a surprisingly tight bass chunk for a passive pup.

Real Nice & w/Kahler too!!!! Go with with EMG 81/85 for killer sounds, went to EMG 81/SA/SA on my model 6 & what a difference from the stock jacksons, I really like the 2 humbuckers on the 5's........... you can see your model on this link on the 86 Charvel catalog.......
