Mod 2, Mod 3 or Mod 4? I own 2 Mod 6's and love'm, but I don't know anything about the other 3.

650xl and 750xl? also?

As I understand it, all of the Model Series were built to the same standards

You can't go wrong with any of them. I guess it mainly depends on your electronics layout preferences. Me, I'm a single hum cat.

Yeah, these guys pretty much have it dead on. The quality was consistent throughout the Model and Contemporary series. It just depends on your preferences for electronics, binding, hardware, etc. That being said, my 650xl slays practically all other guitars in terms of playability.

The 650 and 750 seem to have a rather thick neck compared to the bolt-on models. At least the very few I've played seemed that way.

I agree with everything the guys said about the Model series.

I can't speak of the 650XL, having never played one, but the neck on my 550XL is thicker than any of my Model guitars, but still a very playable guitar.

The necks on my Model 6 and my 750XL feel very similar to each other, which is why I love these two guitars like none other.

they didn't. The 550XL & 650XL were both neckthru. The 750XL was a shortscale setneck archtop. It wasn't a direct replacement for the Model 6.

i have an 88 model 2 which is nice..but nowhere near in comparison to my mod 4 ...that really is the best most organic gauitar i have played...
