As I understand it, all of the Model Series were built to the same standards

Well, the bolt-on models had basswood bodies. The neck-thrus had poplar bodies.

I've got a 650XL, a Predator and a Model 2 and they all play great. The Predator has the thinnest neck while the Model 2 has the thickest of them all. The most comfortable, to me, is the 650XL though, with the Model 2 coming a close second.

Re: Which had the better reputation?

I've had lots of Model Series guitars. The neck thru guitars are in a class by themselves. I've had a Model 6, Model 5, Model 5a, Model 5FX, and 650XL. All have were incredible guitars that rivaled any USA version.

For bolt guitars, I've had a couple Model 1s, a few Model 2s, a Model 3, and an '86 and '87 Model 4. The Model 1s are great players in that they are simple, no frills, hot rod guitars. But IMO, the '86 Model 4 is a step above the standard Model series guitar. I don't know what it is, but my red '86 Model 4 with a Kahler is a just an incredible instrument. It's solid, it sounds awesome, and plays incredible. Plus it has some nice touches like pearl inlays instead of white plastic ones.

They are all great guitars, you can't go wrong with any Model Series Charvel.

I love my model 2 the most as far as it's comfort and playability but my 3dr is right there. The 86 Mod 4 is also a killer axe. Someone i know is getting one shortly
