My first Charvel

Hi!

Today I lurked in some classified site in Quebec and I found a Charvel for sale at about 150km from where I live. It's a black model 1. It looks mint and for the price I had to get it (175$can = about 150$usd).

Man this thing rocks. I understand all the hype around those. I think this is the original pickup in it. Wow I like it better than my seymour duncan JB. It rocks.

Congrats on scoring your Model 1!

The stock pickup on those is a J-90C. As I recall, they had a plastic cover with a white embossed "Jackson" logo. So maybe the previous owner took the cover off, or changed the pickup altogether? Either way, you dig the way it sounds, so more power to ya [img]/images/graemlins/toast.gif[/img]

Nice guitar and welcome to the Charvel/Jackson addiction. I remember the first Charvel I played was a model 1a in 86' and the neck was just right, ya know? The first year or 2 didn't have the pickup covers I think. My 86' model 2 didn't have any covers, anyway, I doubt that's your last Charvel/Jackson!(do I sound a little f'd up?)

My 86 Model 5 had covers and most of the Models I've seen here seem to have them, but I guess it was hit or miss. The 86 catalog doesn't show PUP covers.

I took the pickup out and it's indeed the J-90C, I never tought I would like a stock pickup that much.

The poles are a little bit rusty, any idea to make them look new?

Anyway, this sure isn't my last Charvel [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] But I guess I need to take a little break from buying stuff (Im 18 and I have a dkmg, a Sl-1 and a model 1). I guess I have enough for now, but I did say that I wouldnt buy any guitar for a year when I got my Sl-1 last summer...

The last guitar I bought was also a Model 1 (red) w/ maple.

I don't think the Model 1 ever had PUP covers.
my 86 Model 2 has the uncovered one, but every year after that it was covered on the 2.

I'm not a big fan of covered PUPs, the only ones I like are the chrome Gibson covers.
