Re: 375 Deluxe question

I had a flame maple 375. That's how I found the Forum. And I saw the same match-up with the grain and such. But it was just a very nicely done veneer. No foto-flame stuff.

to be honest why would anyone make a t - style guitar out of basswood..? they're traditionally ash or alder...

I disagree. It doesn't just seem to blend.. It lines up perfectly with a very distictive grain in the cavity. Pick any spot on the grain from the top, you can follow it all the way down to the other side where it lines up perfectly. So either they manged to match the blanks up, or the thing is one piece of something..

Sorry but Tekky is right. I have a 375 Deluxe in Trans Amber. It is a Maple and Basswood sandwich. Charvel just used very good veneer.

as far as weight ratios for wood, if you've had any experience in woodworking, you'll know that same type woods can be totally different weights because of the way the wood "grew" as a tree. Whether it be tightness of growth rings, burl/figured, whatever...weight does not always mean a certain type of wood designation. A good thing to remember!

And don't forget the moisture level. That's why I like my guitars 10 to 20 years old.

I'm not convinced the thing is basswood, but I'm convinced it isn't a solid chunk. The maple is book matched, but the wood in the cavity is a continuous grain. A very bold grain, unlike the basswood I've seen. Ohwell, I'm not overly concerned with what it is and isn't. I love the thing even if it were sawdust and glue (an Epiphone, in other words lol)

Well I did the deed. I had a look in the neck pocket of my Model 7 and am surprised to see no grain pattern. Yep, it's BASSWOOD. I guess Charvel found some dense version or something. I even did the finger nail test on and it didn't dent. Whacky man. I am now a believer...

Based on the post above, I did the fingernail test on the trem cavity. Nada, hard as a rock. I'm not sure WHAT that thing is at this point. lol Ohwell, it doesn't really matter I guess.

If basswood is that dense and heavy, then what the heck is the "basswood" on my ultra light RG560? Driftwood?

Ibanez uses the "balsa" strain of basswood I think lol
