  • My New Pink Charvel

I scored this Charvel on Yahoo! Auction (Japanese equivalent of Ebay) on Wednesday.

I worked at home Friday so that I would be there when the guitar arrived.

It's got a recessed "Charvel" logoed trem.

As all my other Jackson/Charvels are 2 hum/rosewood board guitars, I had been jonesing for a single coil/maple board guitar so bad that I bought a Squier Strat a few months ago. I promised my wife I would sell the Squier because the pink Charvel would take its place... No great loss

What I like about this guitar is the control layout. The custom Jackson Stars soloist I have on order will also have this configuration, except that the switch will be a 5-way instead of a 3-way.

This may be a Charvel that was made for the Japanese market only.

I checked the gallery over at www.jacskonguitar.org, and they had very similar guitars listed as "Charvel Dinky"'s. However, none of them had maple fingerboards.

I don't think that it's a Model 4M neck, either, because the nut width is 41.3mm (1 9/16") as opposed to the 42mm (1 5/8") nut width of the Model series necks...

Serial number is 3342521, on a Fort Worth neckplate.

    Someone wrote in another thread,

"It takes a REAL MAN to play a pink guitar."

    I concur whole heartedly

That looks super clean. BTW, the trem is not recessed, it just has a rear rout for pull ups like my 650xl has.

            Thanks for the compliments, guys!

            Spencer-

I don't know what year she was made, but she looks as though she's hardly been played.

            Carbuff-

You're right about the route. My mistake.

            Budman-

Do you have a particular fondness for pink guitars? I've noticed that in the "Classifieds" and "E-fraid", everyone mentions you when the guitar for sale is pink.

I changed the strings and took the neck off, to see if the neck pocket would have a model name or something. There was a stamp "DK1-10", and a handwritten "W" in the neck pocket. Nothing written on the neck itself.

Besides the strings, I also changed the volume knob.

            Here's a closeup.

My wife told me that the skull looked a little out of place on a guitar as "girly" as this one... We'll see.

Weird, I've never seen a Charvel branded JT580 which is what that tremelo looks like. Was Japan still building "Charvels" in the mid to late 90's? I don't think the Jackson JT580 tremelo made it's debut until well after Charvel ceased production as far as selling American imports.

Also does the dinky body have that scooped out back that all Jacksons had right around the time that Charvel also ceased production?

                  Budman-

Killer modded Model 6! Have you played out with it?

Mine is more of a pastel pink, not neon pink like yours.

                  Jackson-Charvel-

The sustain block on the trem says "TAKEUCHI Made in Japan". There's no model number designation. The arm appears to screw into the sustain block, if that's a characteristic feature of any of the JT5## series.

Here's a photo of the back. No scoop, and no lower horn scallop, either.

                    That's a early 90's Japanese Market Charvel.

The dead giveaways.... Charvel guitar logo with Floyd nut, Charvel Takeuchi and that route, instead of a Jackson Schaller FR...

Nice guitar. I don't particularly care for pink, but sweet dinky!

                      Thanks Xeno!

I also posted at www.jacksonguitar.org asking about the model name and production year for this guitar.

I wanted a "girly" guitar for some reason. I'm glad that this popped up, because otherwise I may have had to buy the "Hello Kitty" guitar

I love it. If and when you tire of this one, it will need to live in Nagoya.

Nope, I don't play out but I guarantee that I would definitely play this out if I did. I could care less what anyone thought of it.
