Just to add more confusion, keep in mind that a standard american strat bar will fit these so it may not be original. Unfortunately I have never owned one of the original Kahler thin black tipped bars so I can't help to let you know if it is original or not.

My original 86 Mod 5 Kahler trem bar is a screw in type. I thought the Strat trem was a push-in type.

Just realised you have the deluxe flip-locks too. You upgraded?

            Thanks guys! You're too kind.
'86? are you sure that isn't new? It's gorgeous! Looks like it was just built.
Zoom in, the serial number is clear as a bell. I got lucky. The guy who sold it must not have played it much. I've already vibrato'd the rhythm dents out of the frets! Dude was having a yard sale 4 doors down. I had to stop and look. I'm ashamed to say I paid $125.00 for it. As far as I know, it's all original except the flathead adjustment screw in the neck pup. Sadly, if you zoom in, its clear as a bell too. The tip on the trem bar
is metal and heavy. I think its coated brass, like the other trem parts.
Beautiful 5 ya got there!! I wish you guys would stop posting all these 5's, you're killin me here!!
Sorry, Dave. If I get lucky again, my next one will be a M6...or a M5fx...or a M5a...

The locknut I've only seen on one other guitar. Late eighties M4. Nice to hear they're and upgrade. They're mighty handy. M4 owner hated it. Said his strings slipped. I haven't noticed and I am cruel to a set of strings i.e. 5 fret bends, insane vibrato. Keeps the frets polished!

That string lock looks like the deluxe version Kahler used to offer. It's too bad that flip lock idea never got used on locking nuts, perhaps it was patented. Even if it was, the patent should have already run out.
              Just a guitar player...

Kahler just got back into the trem biz and is offering the flip-up locks again. Black or chrome, $45, see them here.

                      Very nice M5 there mate!

They ought to do Floyd nut replacements with the flip locks. They should sell. But maybe they just don't want to make all the sizes (R2, R3, R4, etc...).

Nope. Will work with either. Just like Charvel continued to use the Kahler lock in '87 when they switched to Floyd.

Okay guys, is there a snowballs chance in hell I could get GOTM for this? I ain't holding my breath. I see alot of axes that blow mine out of the water but I have to ask. Is it exceptional? You were all very kind and I feel quite welcomed here. Some of you have seen alot of these come and go. I have the utmost respect for your honest opinions. Tell me, please. Should I detail it for real this time and shoot two more pics?

                            Sincerely and Humbly,

It's ALWAYS worth a try but just keep in mind that those are USUALLY saved for rare or special guitars in some way. IF it wouldn't be accepted as guitar of the month, please don't let it bug you, it's a beauty and that's all there is to it.

Wouldn't let it get me down. That's why I asked. Its not Michael Angelo's missing 4 neck. Just didn't know what made for a GOTM. I heard it was the first black one to be seen, at least for a while, and she's mighty shiny. Throw in Khalered '86 w/ that levered locknut. It's Guitar of a Lifetime to me...Didn't want to look like an idiot submitting it. Thanks for the info.
