putting floyd on Model 1 moral question

I'm no trying to be a wise guy with the moral part, what I mean is, how valueble to players are the model 1 with the fender style trem?
The reason I want a model 1 instead of model 2 is the maple finger board
and I would replace the schaller lock with a floyd anyway

So what do people think, would it be viewed as destroying a finite resouce, kind of like the Dukes of Hazard destroyin Chargers, or would it be creating something more valuable to players (not collecters)?

IMO, anything goes with the imports. The one exception that might make some people grumble would be if you modded a pristine Model 88, but hell, they even made 1000 of them. Mod, swap necks, etc, to your heart's content. From a practical & financial standpoint, it might make more sense to pick up a nice Model 2 body, drop in a floyd, and put that sweet maple/maple neck on there. Just a thought.

The beauty of the Model series is usually they can be had for relatively cheap, so you won't depreciate the value too much...and they don't have the San Dimas "aura" about them, but I'd match a well set up Model to a San dimas era any day. That being said, it'd probably be easier to use a Mod 2 body, but you'd need to buy 2 guitars, or at least 2 bodies.

What YOU want to do with the guitar is more important than what others think. It was your money that you worked for to get it, so don't worry what others think.

I'd hesitate before modding a Model 1A (the S/S/S Strat clone), but a Model 1... I wouldn't worry about it.

I never cared for the JT-6 and wanted to replace it as soon as my firecrackle 3DR arrived from the online pawnshop I'd bought it from through ebay.

Luckily, I scored an early 80's chrome floyd and had my luthier install it along with a grind and polish to the frets. It plays as well as my u.s.a. charvel/jacksons.

I had it done the way most do it, leave the JT-6 studs in place, cut out a little so the bridge has nearly full travel and that's it!

I'd do it again in a heartbeat and I'll agree with the others who've said "It's your money, do as you please!" Do what makes you happy.

Great advice there, and those two bits of advice are my opinion also. If you want a Model series with a Floyd then score a Model 2. I'm sure the cost for another guitar will be in line with the cost of trying to modify your Model 1. Plus, there's nothing like a good excuse to add another Model series to your stable.

One thing I really like is the ability to swap out the JT-6 on the Model series guitars because they're top loaders, and you don't have to worry about trimming on a trem recess to make an OFR fit.

Thanks, I think money wise I will look for a model 2, I don't really have anything against rosewood fingerboards (although I would prefer maple), and it will be a lot less hassel to put a Floyd Rose on it, thanks for your input
