i'm no expert, but i think the cx series is garbage. for a couple of bucks more, you can get a model series guitar which is way better in my opinion.

Yeah, get a model 1 or 3, you can normally find em on ebay pretty cheap & they are better.

The CX series is nice. I have a CX392 that is unreal in playablilty and tone (after i switched the pups). Its a great guitar for the 100 bucks i paid for it. Its a little rough cosmetically but thats ot really an issue for a 100 bucks.

Gotta agree with JACKSONFREAK, I picked up a CX291 a few years back for $100 and it turned out to be a nice little guitar. Compares favorably to my MIM Strat. I did wind up replacing the bridge pickup with a hummer though.

I'm voting yes on this one. The CX series is remarkably comfortable and easy to play. I've grown to like my CX 290 quite a lot.

Re: Charvel cx280

I guess the bottom line here is...
Is the Cx series as good as the Model series? NO.
Is a CX a great little guitar for $100? YES.
See if you can get him to drop the price $25.

I vote to save up for a Model series Charvel.

Re: Charvel cx280

my brother has a CX 290 and although the shape of the neck is OK, I regret to say that is the only charvel that I stumbled upon that sux. it won't stay in tune, the pickups sound like the tonepot is completely closed (even bypassed!). The only thing I really like is the colour: aging white. So my 2 cents: don't buy a guitar from the cx series and buy yourself eitehr a model or a 375/475.

i've got a CX390, it's my #2 (out of 3 total) guitar, and i love the neck on it, as well as the finish. tone's not great stock, but i replaced the pickups with joe bardens and an emg 81, and it's much better now. only real issue other than that that i have with it is a nasty buzz at the second fret on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th strings. i paid $350 for it new and feel it was worth it.

he said he'd sell it for 100.00
it has the aging white (which i love)
i think ill get it...
for 100.00 if i think it sux i can just list it on ebay and get my money back.
plus itll look great next to the model 1a i just got.
thanks for all the great imput... i appreciate it.

p.s. my model 1a has no pickguard (well it does but it is so badly damaged that i ned a new one).
i want to change to a humbucker in the bridge and 2 singles.
does anyone know where i can get a replacement PG that will fit a model 1a with the humbucker, single single layout?
thanks
