• Thanks to all

I just wanted to introduce myself and thank all the guys here at the JCF for all of the great info. I recently took the plunge & picked up a Model 6 on Ebay. In the past few days as I nervously waited for it to ship, I think I read just about everything posted here about the Model series guitars, JT-6 trems, mid-boost circuits, etc. (the search function here is the best on any board, imo) This place is an absolute goldmine!

So... my guitar arrived yesterday, and I'm happy to say it's in great shape, with just a couple of very small dings, very little fret wear, all electronics working well. The auction pics were pretty dark & not very sharp, which made me a bit nervous. As it turns out, they weren't hiding anything, and the bad pics may have ended up helping keep the price down. I paid $405. Cobalt blue, pretty sure it's an '87. The case is in very close to new condition after a good cleaning. The only disappointment was the "recent setup", in which the "tech" had completely bottomed out the fine-tuners and tightened the springs to the point that the trem wasn't even floating. We're talking full lockdown mode against the body. In the "comments" section of the setup receipt, the "tech" wrote: "Floyd Rose sucks to set up!" Rock on, dude! Twenty minutes later, I had it reasonably set up and played for the rest of the night (well... long enough for my wife to get pissed, anyway). Today's project: switch the 10's to Hybrid Slinky's, lower the action & intonate. This thing screams, & it's only going to get better!

Re: Thanks to all

Welcome and enjoy it. IMHO, it's one of the best guitars made and for the price, it's an unbelievable find.
Now.......

WHERE THE HELL ARE THE PICTURES?????
Just teasing ya, but you better get pics up on the forum soon or the men in black coats will show up at your door and take the pictures for you

Yes, pics are needed so your fellow JCF'ers can drool all over them, one of our favorite pastimes...

Set her up to your liking, and then turn it up loud enough to piss off the neighborhood, not just your wife...

Enjoy... and welcome

Re: Thanks to all

Thanks for the welcome, guys! Here is a link to the auction page w/ pics (dim, not very clear, unfortunately). It's weird, the trem looks rusty in the pictures, but there is none. Just finish wear. They had two blue Model 6's for sale at the same time, and it's possible that some of the pictures got swapped. It may be a while before I can post any better photos, since my sister has our camera (new baby).

I got the setup completed. I have never had a guitar with such amazingly low, buzz-free action. I'll probably swap out the trem arm with an Allparts retrofit kit. The original has a bit too much play for me. Otherwise, I couldn't be more thrilled with this guitar. I can't imagine any axe that gives more bang for the buck! I originally made this purchase as a way to sort of "test drive" a Soloist on the cheap. I probably will treat myself an SL-1 (or better yet, an 80's Soloist) at some point, but this will definitely not be my last Charvel.

That model 6 looks a little beat up to me, especially for that price. Tell ya what I'm gonna do...I'll buy that one from 'ya for what you paid for it and then you can use that money to go find yourself a real nice one! Deal?
Just ask anybody here, I'm always trying to help out a brother in need.

As far as the trem arm being loose get some new plastic bushings and put them on, it will be good as new. Any ibanez dealer will carry them.If I had any more I'd mail em to ya but I'm all out.
Those are great guitars I love my black one.
Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Dave, I know what you mean. I keep checking 'em out, too. My wife has already hit me with, "Didn't you just buy one of those?" I came back with, "You're right, sweetie, I'll stick to the porn from now on." Strange how that didn't go over so well... Actually, she's very understanding when it comes to my obsessions. I'm starting to teach her how to play, so soon she'll have her own case of GAS to deal with.

mm, that is a mighty kind offer, but I'll just suffer through with this one for now.

Good call, Richard. The bushings were pretty worn, & I just tried the arm from my beater RG. Much more stable. Brand new ones should be even better. I may still go with the kit if it has the tension adjustment topside. I think it does.

Re: Thanks to all

welcome, always nice to have a new charvel "fan" over here, especially if his choice is a model 6: my choice as well (ok it is modded to the bone, but hey, it is still a "6").

enjoy your stay.
