Can some one tell me what type of wood is a model 2? What type of pickups came stock? Mine has Duncans. It's a DD on the bridge and a SEY (what ever that stands for) on the neck. The neck pickup and switch was added. Thanks.
here is a pic.

Originally, the Model 2 had a solid Basswood body and one Jackson J90C humbucker.

Thanks Budman, There was another post about basswood. This guitar sounds awsome. The pickups probably make the difference. My Gibson Explorer and my Hamer Chap Custom don't sound as good, but they have the stock pickups.

You're very welcome. Actually my Gibson Studio Les Paul has the stock 490T and 500 pickups and I love it. It's all a matter of taste.

Ok budman im confused. You have two bridge pups in your Les Paul? They should be the 498r and 490t
The 500 and 496 are ceramic magnets were as the 490's are high output alnico magnets. basically and over wound PAF.
But the studio's stock are the 498t and 490r
The LP Cstm is the 498t and the 490r and the std is or was the 57 classics. but now its the burst buckers.

Yup! You're absolutely correct! For some reason I had that etched into my mind. My apologies for your confusion
