  • General Charvel query?

Hey how's it going, im a fairly new member here. I fell in love with charvels quite at random, actually as lame as it sounds. I saw one on ebay (750XL)and it looked cool and had everything I wanted for a decent price (i was going towards buying a new Jackson SL2) and saw this and had to have it. It came in with out a scratch, perfect in every way. the neck fit my hand perfectly.

Ever since then, i've added to the collection, with a Model 6, in what was white, now has yellowed which makes it even cooler looking. and Recently nabbed up a 90ish Model 650XL.

basically im asking if anyone has any tips for these guitars, knows any faults or worries I should be aware of. also, post pics of your own charvels! im on the hunt for the model 7 (the tele)

by the way, i noticed the neck varied a lot in radios and everything from my model 6, to my 750XL are there any other models that have a neck that matches the design of the 750XL, that isn't a neck through. im looking for a bolton so i can redo a guitar in paint of my choice.

Sorry for not helping, but do you know what "XL" stands for?

I think only the neck-throughs of that particular model series - "toothpaste logo" - had the XL suffix, but I'm not 100% sure.

            And 24 3/4" (Gibson) scale.
Sounds like you have three very high quality axes. I can't think of any problems you should encounter that you wouldn't have with any good guitar. Does the model 6 have the Kahler or JT6 (Floyd style) trem? Also, the neck profiles did seem to vary a bit with the neck-thrus / set necks, but the bolt-ons were pretty consistent from my experience.

Correct - I always keep forgetting that.
It is indeed set neck, but has the same fit and feel as a neck-through.

On a trans finish 750 it's pretty easy to see the difference between the maple neck & mahogany body. Here's mine:

Even though the joint is sculpted like on a neckthrough, it's pretty obvious that it's a set neck

hah thanks racer X for the welcome, ill have to get some pics of my guitars up here shortly.

well,... that's cool atleast now I know, i was always under the assumption that it was a neck through. my guitar is the dark green with a sparkle underneath.... so it's pretty hard to see the lines.

but thanks everyone for the help. Im a big die hard for charvels now. Won't play anything else.

nice model 7, I keep missing them on ebay, saw a couple of white ones and a black one go by me.. really wish I snagged them when I could.

The model 5 and 6 series are all neck thru's. I think the 750XL was designed to compete with the LP market (hence the set neck and the thick mahogany body, and the LP 24 3/4" scale length). I have 4 LP's, and my first 750XL is on the way so that I can compare the two.
