Does anybody know how many non-floyded models were made?

I don't think very many string-thru 750s were made--you certainly don't see that many around. I think string-thrus were a lot more common on the Archtop Soloist Pro.

The string-thru 750 is a lot rarer for sure as it wasn't even in the catalog as a model. The Archtop Pro had a string-thru version as well as the Floyd in the catalog so many more were made.

Re: The Official Charvel 750XL Information Thread

I have a question about refinishing the guitar. I have a blue one on the way with the paint chipped long the bottom edge. If I took the paint off the top, would I find it to have a maple that would be worthy to stain, or did they paint the ones with flaws. I would hate to find wood filler. Thanks.

Re: The Official Charvel 750XL Information Thread

I believe that the factory painted the 750s with unattractive tops in solid colors, although I love a natural finish, even where the top doesn't have any figuring. I had a Les Paul Custom like that years ago, and I thought it looked cool with a regular maple top and natural finish.

Thanks for the input. I guess no gut's, no glory. If I don't like what I see, it can just be repainted.

I'll give the particulars on my new baby...

1989 Charvel 750XL S/N C901052
Cherry Sunburst
J50B neck pup and J80C bridge w/ covers
"Jackson" stamp on Shaller Floyd
Bevels on the cut-aways
100% cut around the knobs.

A few minor dings, but it's easily a 9.5 out of 10.

Who wants to cringe at the price I paid?

Cheers.

I paid a mere $444 Canadian for mine. (Approx 330 US)

Seeing some of the prices, I think I did pretty well...
