Re: The Official Charvel 750XL Information Thread

'Nother question...

Has anyone had theirs refinished? If so, is the wood dyed? Or is all the color in the trans finish?

That's funny, the JCF Brother I got my Cherry Sunburst 750XL from was the original owner. He told me about spending 3 weeks in the store playing this one and a purple one they had. I specifically asked him if it was purple or blue and he said it was definitely purple, not like the trans blue 90-91 Jackson Soloist Professional Archtops.

Nor, would love to see some pics of yours.

These guitars are so good that I named my AOL screen name after them. (No duh, huh?!) Again, the finest Charvel ever made, USA or not. The amber seems to come up from time to time. But Nor's blue one is rare, I've never seen one in person that color. My first was my red one. I've owned a baby blue one (the solid finishes have matching heads), an amber burst, a red burst, a metallic black, and a pearl white. Long live the 750.

Wow Nor, I've always known your 705XL was blue but I figured it was the solid blue colour, never thought it was see-thru, that is cool!!!!

Mine is a later numbered one and pretty much fits in with Gregs descriptions.

Those of you who have played both the 750xl and the Archtop Soloist Pro, how would you say they compare? I'm planning on getting one or the other someday, and I'm curious to hear about the differences in their sound and feel.

Well, my 750XL got here today. It's in fantastic shape, and sounds amazing. The only marks I've found are a scratch or two on the trem cavity cover. Here are the particulars:

Cherry Sunburst
SN: C904624
No pickup covers
deep access cuts
full knob recesses
Charvel stamp on trem

Comparing the neck to my Model 6, it is very similar up to about the 12th fret. Above the 12th, the neck on the Model 6 stays pretty uniformly thin right until it blends into the body, whereas the 750XL's begins to thicken up gradually before it meets the body. Both necks are a bit thicker than that of an SL1, but I still consider them thin compared to just about anything else I've played.

There's another one up on eBay. Early one, SN C806118. Notice, it doesn't appear to have the access cutouts at all. Looks pretty nice, even with EMGs! Amazing how so many people call 'em neck through, but on a painted model it's easy to understand how they would think so.
