Re: The Official Charvel 750XL Information Thread

I noticed that there have been some questions about 750XL necks, so while I was doing some routine maintenance on my guitars yesterday I broke out the calipers and took some neck measurements. I measured my Model 6 for comparison. As far as thickness goes, they are extremely similar up to the 12th fret or so, with the Model 6 just a hair thinner. Above that point, the 750XL neck thickens more as it tapers to meet the body. When people refer to the neck as thick or "chunky", I think they're probably thinking about the upper-fret region. Even so, I consider this to be about the most playable set-neck I've ever tried. In terms of width, they are basically the same, with a slight difference probably more due to the binding than the wood. The fretboards have about the same radius. Pretty flat, but not quite as flat as newer Soloists I've played. As far as backshape, the 750XL neck is a bit more round, without the noticeable flat spot that the Model 6 has. I think this may explain why the Model 6 neck feels thinner to me even though the actual measurements say it really isn't by much. As always, your results may differ since these guitars tended to vary.

*For comparison, the 2003 catalog shows the SL1 neck to be .790 at the 3rd and .850 at the 12th.

Sorry for all the ...... in the table, but I couldn't get it to line up right without them.

Just got a trans blue one. S/N is 900660. No trem route and treated roughly, a few chips and bangs. Yet to string it up. Budman is coming through AGAIN with some stuff I need to fire her up. I will post pics when ready.

                  Hey all!

I have had my trans blue / purple looking one for a few years. I got it for under $400 and will never sell it. #C902181. Charvel logo. Had the plastic covers but I sold them and put emg81 / 85's on it. I love it. It is my favorite player. Stamped shaller trem.

It has a chip or two in the edge of the top. Just the clear, not the wood. It looks like the tops were stained. Nors is the only one I have ever seen in the same color.

My board is a dark rosewood but is very red.

I just pickup up another 750XL.It has been a while since any ones added to this so...

                    Here are the specs
                    Serial # C900852
                    Full route around the V/T
                    5 way switch
Sort of a dark pink/red magenta?
                    Jackson/Schaller trem no recess
Stock Jackson covered pickups with oversized rings They sound surpringly good I was a little shocked.
Fret board is in between the other two I have , not real light not real dark.
This one is also a player quite a few bumps and bruises
It is also the lightest of the three as weights about two pounds less than the other two.It feels more like my AT Pro.

I will post my serial as soon as I have my 750 xl back. what I really think is weird, is that the neckshapes are diffrent. why the heck would they do such things: it does not serve a purpose at all. My "6" neck is also WAY thinner than my 750, both high and low on the neck.

Very nice. What's up with the inlay on the 15th fret? Either way, that looks very nice.
