  • 475 body?

I have what I think is a 475 body, it has a flame top. It's the one I was selling a few weeks back. I got the neck off the body today (clean).I was wondering if anyone knew what the body is made of, and is it worth refinshing it?

The link is pics of the body and neck.

It's basswood with a flamed maple top and back...

I'd say if you can't buff out whatever flaws it may have, you may have trouble re-finishing it. The flamed verneers on them aren't that thick.

I just spent about an hour sanding the body.It looks pretty good so far.I think I'm gonna stain it blue.It will take about 3-4 hours to get all the finsh off.

      Thanks Todd

If you're trying to sand off the finish you're gonna cut right through the veneer dude. Be careful, it's only about .100" thick (thin!) You'd be much better off using a good stripper on that one and hoping for the best. (and be vewy vewy caweful!!) Just my two pennies.

Now defined is the grain? They do actually apply a flame to it to get it to darken.
