  • Charvel 475 questions

    Hey guys,

There seems to be a lack of shit to read about 475's, yet I'm pretty shure I own one.

First of all I'd like to know if my guitar could be any other model. it looks exactlyt from like the 475 deluxe from the catalouge. With toothpaste logo, sharkfins, 22 frets, H,S,S Jackson pickups, Schaller floyd rose made in germany, and the three pots, presuming one is a mid boost.
    Serial: 356835

Now how would I know if this is a 475 deluxe, or normal, or maby the other variety which i can remember. And what would the difference be?

Also, would my pickup be a J90 or J90C, or could it even be anything else? (The humbucker of course)

Ill add a pic to help you guys along. Thanks alot for any help.

(actually this is a pretty bad pic, if you guys need to see anything just tell me, ill take a pic, thanks again.)

Welcome to the forum! I remember you from the HC forums! I have the same avatar there, but different name .

Your guitar must be 475 Deluxe. I'm looking through a 90-91 catalog and it seems there were 475 Deluxe and 475 Deluxe-Exotic. Latter had somekind of red finish with orange burst in the middle and that was the only difference. Don't know about the pickups, but I think they are J120 singles and j50bc humbucker with je-1200 circuitry (mid boost).

Did you get it cleaned btw? Post some new pics!

Ill post some new ones as soon as it looks better. Yep I remember you.. Metal-boy or something like that. I thought this was a better place to ask about pickups and models on charvel that Harmony Central.

hmm.. I thought it would have the JC90's.. are the JC50bc worse than those?
Anyway, so how good is a JC50BC, worth putting in new pickups?

Ill have it cleaned during this week, im on holiday now! Post new pics.

It's a good pickup when the guitar has the midboost, specially for soloing. If the midboost is removed, then the J50BC will sound weaker.

Just judge its sound yourself, if you like it keep it. It's a quality pickup made in USA, unlike nowadays Jackson pickups.

Thanks, so it has a J50BC, damn. I was hoping for a J90C.
Anyway Ill be taking it intomorw and I doubt ill have the pickup changed, dont have the cash anyway and it sounds pretty nice if you ask me, and especially for soloing, like you say.

FWIW Jackson pickups sound good to me. Since you are convinced you need to change it, what pickup are you going to put in there?

Im not conviunced at all, I asked if it was worthpretty good. My amp sucks and my strings are old atm. So I could hardly judge wether they are much good. But i like the general tone enough to keep them.

Yep, that is a 475 deluxe. I use mine all the time, and given the proper song, the middle/neck pickup do a good job for me.

^ Um.. that looks terrible. but thanks, or something.

Yah its still pretty dirty at the moment.

Nyway.. so the 475 is better than a 375 right? And are these better than model 4's as they were their replacements. Or were the replacements even worse than original model 4's?

Ill get new pics tomorow.. maby if i remember.

Why do people assume import Charvels are junk. The toothpaste Charvels are fantastic guitars so are the model series. All the model series kick ass, very high quality.475,375 it doesn't make one better than the other it just means they are different models.
I don't mean to be harsh... sorry. You have a great guitar there. Once its cleaned and tweaked I'm sure you will be happy with it.

Yeah, it's not too often that people who own these guitars describe them with the term "even worse than..."

Even worse than the original model 4s?I've never had a bad model 4 only about 8 really good ones.
My 87 USA Jackson has 2 J-50s and the JE1200 mid boost and I think its a great sounding guitar. So outstanding I'm not going to change anything.

Hahaha, sorry guys I didnt mean to sound like I think the guitar isnt good. Im quite amped that I got it for like $200.

I was just wonderng where the 475 slots in into the models, in terms of quality. That is what model numbers are for right? I mean a Epiphone G-400 is worse that a black beuaty right?

Edit: oh I see what you guys mean, I said EVEN worse than.. sorry I jus mean worse than.
