• Question about Model 3A pickup switch

Guys,

Regarding the Model 3A's 5-way switch and 2 buckers - how are the switch positions 2 and 4 wired?

I believe position 2 is the bridge pup and position 4 is the outer coils of both pups.

Re: Question about Model 3A pickup switch

Wouldn't this be the same as a model 5?

1=bridge pickup
2=outer coils of both pickups
3=all coils of both pickups
4=inner coils of both pickups
5=neck pickup

Re: Question about Model 3A pickup switch

hmmmmm, I just checked in my 86 charvel catalog and it says this for a model 5:
1 - front pickup
2 - back pickup
3 - backs coil of front pickup and front coil of back pickup
4 - front coil of front pickup and back coil of back pickup
5 - both pickups fully on

(BTW, the #1 position is nearest the neck)

Hell guys, shouldn't we know this shit by now????

Wow, your 86 catalog has the switch positions in it? Is yours the "first impressions" catalog? And yes, we should know this by now
I alaways thought position 1 was by the bridge, I guess I just like to think it is

Yep, it's the first impressions catalog with the red model 6 on front. Switch positions are on pg. 24.

Re: Question about Model 3A pickup switch

On my 750XL, the switch is wired like this (with position 1 being nearest the neck, as Mark said):

1 - neck
2 - outer coils of both
3 - both humbuckers
4 - inner coils of both
5 - bridge

I think I remember someone saying that the Fusion Plus had this scheme too. It seems like a more logical layout to me than in the earlier models, since it is closer to a match with how the pickups are actually placed.

I agree, it makes no sense to me. I always wire mine so the #5 position is the bridge and go from there. It just makes more sense when you're looking down at the guitar. I wired my model 5 with the PRS scheme and it is killer!
