Re: 650 XL

Pics are coming soon.... Also, can anyone tell me what years these were made? I know they were made right after the Model 6 was discontinued, so does that mean '88ish to '90ish?
Thanks~

Re: 650 XL

1989-91.

Although in the 1990-91 catalogs, they were listed as the "650 Custom"--but it's the same guitar.

I had a 650xl for awhile, and only got rid of it to get back into USA Soloists. High quality guitar in every way.

650XLs are defintely sweet axes. I bought mine new in 1992. Weird thing is though, it has an '88 serial number. So, I wonder if it was one of the early ones that used a neck left over from the previous year and then hung around the store for a few years.
Anyhoo, play the hell out of that thing, man. It is one of the best out there.

Re: 650 XL

I doubt they made the switchover from Model 6 to 650xl exactly on January 1, 1989. It sounds like they produced some of the 650s in late 1988, even though they didn't show up in the Jackson catalog (or probably got to dealers) until 1989. There are also some 750xl's with C8xxxxx numbers, aren't there?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yep, that is correct. my 750xl is a prime example of this fact. The SN is C806118.

The serial number on this one starts with C00XXXX. Any idea as to when this rig was built?

That would be 1990, no?

Correct.

The first digit in the serial # of the neckthru/setneck import Charvels and Jacksons is the key, since that is the last number of the year the guitar was made. The import nt/sn Jacksons have serials that start with a J, rather than C, but the numbering system is the same. The problem now comes with the import Jacksons made since 2000, since they would also have serial #s starting with J0xxxxx etc. (the first import Jacksons were made in 1990) But the imports now are so different from the 1990-93 versions, that it shouldn't be a problem.

I was searching for a 650 Custom before I finally found and bought my 475 Deluxe. I really love the Charvels and Jacksons made around this time. Doesn't the 650 have the J50BC/J120/J120 pickups, same as the 475?
