Re: 650 XL
650XLs are defintely sweet axes. I bought mine new in 1992. Weird thing is though, it has an '88 serial number. So, I wonder if it was one of the early ones that used a neck left over from the previous year and then hung around the store for a few years.
Anyhoo, play the hell out of that thing, man. It is one of the best out there.

Re: 650 XL
I doubt they made the switchover from Model 6 to 650xl exactly on January 1, 1989. It sounds like they produced some of the 650s in late 1988, even though they didn't show up in the Jackson catalog (or probably got to dealers) until 1989. There are also some 750xl's with C8xxxxx numbers, aren't there?

Re: 650 XL
Correct.
The first digit in the serial # of the neckthru/setneck import Charvels and Jacksons is the key, since that is the last number of the year the guitar was made. The import nt/sn Jacksons have serials that start with a J, rather than C, but the numbering system is the same. The problem now comes with the import Jacksons made since 2000, since they would also have serial #s starting with J0xxxxx etc. (the first import Jacksons were made in 1990) But the imports now are so different from the 1990-93 versions, that it shouldn't be a problem.
