  • Model 88

I found a Model 88 here in my hometown... The cat wants about $400 bones for it. I know these are widely sought after, but are they worth that much? I would love to have one but I could also live without it too.

They really vary in prices, depending on condtion ect. $400 seems like a good price depending on the condition.

If its all intact(original)with OHSC and clean thats a fair price. They do vary in price tho'I've seen someone pay 800.00+ for a clean one I would not pay that,I mean I want one just not that bad.

Agreed, $400 is not bad but for $800 it better have all the case candy including the Certificate. What condition is it in?

Nah... It's not stock. If I remember correctly it has an EMG stuck in it.... Don't know about the case yet... I'll get back to ya.

original pickup would be a J-95. (covered)
I've been wanting an 88 for a long time just haven't gotten lucky enough to find one yet.If its clean $400.00 with OHSC you should buy it.Make sure its got the original neck plate because these guitars seem to get robbed of their neck plates more than the reg jap charvels.Should be a low digit serial number because there were only 1000 made.

Does the fact that it has an EMG in her raise or lower the value?

No not really, a collector might ***** about the change but to me naw I have a J-95 so in it would go.Is the body and neck in good shape?Thats 90% of the reason I'll buy a guitar(c/j) if the body and neck are in clean condition I've usually got the correct pickup to put back in.So a pickup change is no big deal.If you do get it and dont like it I've always got something you might want to trade for.Keep me in mind. I'd look at the EMG as a bonus. Pull the EMG and sell it, then take half of that money and buy a J95 to make it original again. The balance is your rebate on the guitar! BTW, I may possibly be selling my 88 if anyone's interested. I'll post it in the classifieds when I'm ready.
