  • Another nooby

Hi, really cool site here, I have owned my Charvel for about 8 years (a pawnshop find), got looking around the web last night and found Tekky's site which led me here. As I learned from Tekky's site, my Charvel is a 1988 Model 6 (metalic blue #C800594) that the previous owner put EMG s/s/h pickups in, the guitar is also in outstanding condition. I would like to re-do the wiring and replace the pots, does anyone have a schematic for EMG's when used with the stock 3 knob, 3 switch configuration, I imagine it would be the same as the Charvel/Jackson active system.

One of my other guitars is a Valley Arts (US made) which has a terrific body, great pickups and a crap neck that I'm getting the notion the put a Charvel neck on, I'll have more questions about that project when I can get some measurements and specifics.

    Sorry for the novel,
    Scott

You can get the wiring diagram and data sheet as a pdf from EMG. Here is a link to the file.

Hope this helps you out and welcome to the forum.

Thanks RR, I looked all over EMG's site and couldn't find that. I did determine the pickups I have are SA/SA/81 models, I am really impressed with the options EMG offers, I think I would like to try the EMG SPC and the EMG EXG in place of my old tone pots, more or less the same set-up found in their David Gilmour SA/SA/SA Strat dealio. I did find through searches that my M-6 should have come with a JE1200 mid boost circuit, which is missing.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I think your site kicks a$$! Am I trippin' or is there more interest these days in 80's guitar music, I sure seems like there's more interest in the 80's guitars these days, when I bought my M6 8 years ago everybody was looking for beat-up Fenders. I wonder what the next "big thing" will be.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Welcome Charvel Sixx! Your M6 preamp was probably removed by whoever installed the EMGs because they are active pickups (IIRC). The JE-1200 is an active mid-boost circuit designed to be used with the stock passive pickups, so it would seem to be unnecessary. I've never heard of anyone successfully running the active EMGs through the preamp, but any of you guys correct me if I'm wrong ...

I've taken a couple pictures of my model 6, if anybody wants to post them I'd be happy to email them. I still haven't got around to putting the pickups in and rewiring.

Hey thanks guys, that means a lot. I'm actually in the process of a re-design. I'll be launching it 1/1. I think the new design blows the current design away!!!
