Here is what aussies want for these model 6's and various other charvels/ jacksons
Enjoy.................................or shiver in disbelief! http://www.guitarcrazy.com.au/Jackson.htm
Yeah, that's the one. Mind you, when the local stores charge over $4k for a USA Jackson, you can maybe understand why people would pay that much.
Here's my pair of '88 Model Sixes. I found the one with the chrome Gotoh trem in a pawn store!
Ive taken some photos of exactly what i got with my model 6, and the trem the guy gave me. It's called an "overload of music" trem, something tells me, its a POS, but i have never used a locking style trem, so maybe its an ok one?
Here are the photos, please tell me what to keep and what to get rid of, i dont know if the pickups work, how do i test them???
Also a question about painting, the binding on the guitar is in good nick, only one little blemish, its a yellow/cream colour, and i am going to paint the guitar a pearl white. Question is should i paint the binding aswell or leave it cream and have the contrast? Please give your opinion because i am torn between leaving it as is, or painting it with the rest of the guitar to make it all pearl white.
Thanks all
Ditch that trem, your newly painted M6 deserves an OFR or Schaller Floyd, change the posts while you're at it too.
With the binding, you'll find it's the clearcoat that has yellowed, so you can scrape it off carefully and it will be nice and white again. Don't paint the binding, make it white again and clear over it again when you do the rest of the guitar.
Do not paint the binding. It's not supposed to be painted, and you would lose the fret position side markers. The contrast in color is a nice eyecatcher as well.
How do i clean the binding, just a damp cloth?? So the yellow comes off anyway. I guess i could leave it and have the contrast, but id rather it white than yellow.
Im thinking of now putting an EMG 81 in the bridge, ive noticed that it comes with a volume and tone pots, and some other things.
My question is do the emg's work well with passive pickups eg if i have a passive single coil in the neck, does it make wiring harder? Second, i think i read somewhere that you need a special input jack for the guitar to go in? does the emg pickup include this? thanks for any help.
For the binding, I suspect you would have to carefully scrape it, or sand it along with the neck. There is usually a layer of clearcoat over the binding, and it's the clearcoat that yellows with time.

EMGs generally do not work well in conjunction with passives, and yes, it would complicate the wiring. The EMG uses 25k pots, and you typically need a 500k pot for the passives. Plus, the EMG would be way louder than the passive pups, overshadowing them and making the output uneven. It is doable if you wish to do it that way though.
Yes, you need a stereo jack for the EMG. This "switches off" the battery when you unplug the guitar. All EMGs (AFAIK) ship complete with pots, stereo jack and battery clip.
Personally, I would either stay with passive pups, or go all-out EMG on all pickups. Less trouble that way.
Ok, EMG idea gone, now looking for some passives and i dont really want to go with the SD-JB thats in my js-20. So im thinking of either Dimarzio Evolution or Tone Zone in trhe bridge, does anyone have preference for one or the other? I play alot of rock, hard rock, and when i clean up the sound, i use the singles, so which would be better? i read some reviews, both gave them both the thumbs up.
I do maybe 75% of solo's in our band, so want it to cut through the mix nice.
Thanks!
Thanks, ill try the evolution. I cant really ditch the trem, cant afford a new one really, and the guy at the guitar store said the one i have would work fine, so ill keep it for now, i might not even like a locked bridge, never used one, so may put a non locking trem in there, just not sure at the moment.
must be my lucky day, just picked up a licenced floyd rose for $40 australian. So i can get rid of the other one, and at least have a half decent trem on there. Paint will be done next week, and the way everything is falling into place i will have this guitar all ready to go within a month!! rock on!!
I just got it off ebay, so should have it by next week, how hard are string blocks to buy? i have a set but if i sell the other trem i might need to include them, and they might not fit the LFR.
The guy said the picture doesnt do it justice, so lets hope he has a crap camera
i bought a locking nut, 42mm wide, should it fit ok on this guitar, i measured 43mm but may have been out, i think its just like a floyd type locking nut, ill post a picture when i get it, i hope it fits, i think its just a generic brand, single locking, whatever that means

Once you sand the clear off of the binding you will find that it is nice and white. That first trem looks like a cheap knockoff for the Ibanez Edge LoPro, ditch that and find Schaller , JT590, or OFR for sure. As far as passive pickups go I cannot recommend the ToneZone enough I love that pickup.
