  • Mega Switch source? Wiring diagrams?

I just got some new PUs for a 750XL, and would like to know a good source for a mega switch, and some wiring diagrams( H H Megaswitch 1 vol, 1 tone ). Any help would be apreciated. While I am at it, I should probably replace the input jack and vol/tone pots. Any advice on what new ones to use is apreciated.

    Thanks!

Are the orig electronics still in it?
    750xl, 88LE, AT1, Roswell Pro, SG-X, 4 others...
Stilletto Duece 1/2 Stack, MkIII Mini-Stack, J-Station, 12 spaces of misc rack stuff, Sonar 4, Event 20/20, misc outboard stuff...

Why do I still want MORE?

Yes, but I am going to hang on to them. I pulled out the board which the volume pot it soldered into, and it says "Jackson Electronics" So whoever said this wasn't stock...

        I said it wasn't stock - and it's not.
        So there...

Sounds like someone swapped some stuff out.

Does it sound bad? If the p/u's you got are passive, you can swap em right out.

          Cliff,

Go over to www.guitarelectronics.com. TONS of wiring diagrams, including 2-hums and 5-way mega switch. I'm about to use their diagram to wire up a project guitar.

It seems the non-stock PUs were a J-80C Bridge, and a J-50B? ( There is a letter/number cut-off ), and a Unstock Jackson preamp of some sort. I believe these are passive PUs.

BUT - if you are using older Jackson p/u's, the color-code chart at Guitar Electronics is incorrect. Black is hot and Green goes to ground...

They also carry megaswitches (5-way 4-pole) that are a little bit different than the JE-005.

              Here's the original...

If you are pulling the boost, there is prolly someone who would be happy to take it off your hands...

Sounds like stock pu's (someone added the boost circuit) - your new ones should pop right in.

Do the pu's still have the black covers on them?

Re: Mega Switch source? Wiring diagrams?

This board doesn't appear to be a JE-1000 board. This is a much simpler board. Just a M8616 chip, a few caps, and resistors. The two wires to the tone pot come off of one of the short edges of the board, the volume pot is mounted into the board. I don't see any ID at all for this. There is nothing on the foil side of the PC board, and nothing on the silkscreened side, except for Jackson Electronics. There are no trim pots...

Sounds like the 'Firestorm' gain boost (or something like that) that they offered in the 90's...

Re: Mega Switch source? Wiring diagrams?

isn't the Firestorm the booster they've recently been using? Like in the DK2FS?

The JE-1200 is a simpler board, just a midboost, maybe that's it

Re: Mega Switch source? Wiring diagrams?

Stew Mac carries the megaswitch. (stewmac.com) I recently installed a "P" model (PRS) and I love the tones I can get out of it. Switch positions are as follows:

                      1. Bridge humbucker
                      2. Inner coils in parallel
                      3. Outer coils in series
                      4. Outer coils in parallel
                      5. Neck humbucker

                      Here's the wiring diagram:

Re: Mega Switch source? Wiring diagrams?

I ended up doing the following with the super/mega switch...

                        1) HB Bridge
                        2) Both PUs Split ( slug bobbin of each )
                        3) Both HB PUs
                        4) Neck PU Split only ( slug of neck PU )
                        5) HB Bridge

It seems to be a really cool setup!!!

Re: Mega Switch source? Wiring diagrams?

I ended up using the wiring from the Ibanez site that fellow JCFer pointed me at, Hippie Tim... And it turns out to be awesome with the JB bridge/Jazz neck... The 2nd from the rear postion really gets spanky, when both PUs are engaged and coil split at the same time...
