• new member: model 6 question

Hi guys, I'm a new member here and got a few questions about a model 6 I picked up. The serial number is C703344 and is on the back of the headstock. It has a Jackson floyd tremolo( JT-6 ?) and Jackson humbucker(J50B) and 2 Jackson stack pickups. Overall the guitar is in good shape with a bit of grime on the tremolo. What year is this guitar? Also where can I get replacement parts like a better tremolo and/or a whammy bar(missing)for this tremolo and a back cover? Do they still make those type pickups from Jackson? These are a bit rough looking with emblems(white)wore off. Thanks, Bob

Hi there. Congratulations on finding the Model 6. The year is easy to tell from the serial No. C7 = 1987.

If you just want a whammy bar, then I find that the Ibanez "Sure grip" arms drop right in there, although the fit is a little loose. I had to do this for my Model 5A and Model 3 as the whammys on these were both MIA[1].

If you want to replace the whole bridge, then any Floyd Rose will drop right in there, I think.

I don't believe that the pickups or pickup covers are available as spares any more. Even though the Model series guitars were made in Jpaan, the pickups were from Jackson in the USA.

    Cheers - Steve K

    1) Somewhere there's a stack of Jackson/Charvel whammy bars the size of a small condo. They are always missing from used guitars!

If you want to change the trem, a Floyd Rose will drop in with *almost* no problems.

Because the Model series used non-recessed trems, you need to use a longer sustain block on the Floyd, about 43mm I think.

The reason being is that alot of Floyds that are used on guitars with trem recesses.. they have a block thats doesn't reach deep enough into the rear trem spring cavity.

Example, my 96 Jackson DK1 has a Floyd with the shorter block, it won't work with my Model 6 or Model 2 unless I change the block.

However my Floyd off of my 86 Kramer is non-recessed, so it fits fine.

Budman is, in fact, a good source for stuff, and I know Doc has the bar / screw in thingy replacement set that fits the JT6 if you want to ditch the pop-in bar for one that knuckles down. 'Cause I bought one from him!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">that's correct sir! only, it is to my memory 42mm, but who cares. A standard Schaller will fit in perfectly, I replaced it with the schaller, and believe me, it works really great (the feeling in the schaller is more to my liking) and as said, enjoy your model 6, they ARE great.

                anyway, welcome to our sanctuary.

Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate it. I'll try to look up the guy named "Budman" to see what kinda parts he has. It'll take a little while to get to know the guys around here. I mess around with a lot of different guitars(Ibanez,ESP,Hamer,Charvel,Gibson and Ovation) and a couple of Marshall amps. Trying to get into refinishing also. Thinkin about switchin out those Jackson pickups in the 6 to an SD distortion(SH-6)or a JB and 2 classic stacks. Bob
