• Opinions on Model 3's?

I was wondering what the Model 3 owners (or former owners) think of them? Mine's an '87 with the "licesned" Floyd, stock Jackson Pups (H/S/S), etc. There's a pic here:

I love this guitar. Got the "Floyd" nice and level, action low and the thing just plain feels good. Once I slap in some new EMG pups (probably this weekend ) I think it will REALLY kick ass.

How would you all compare it to say any of the other Japanese Charvels from the '80's? Newer Charvels? What say you all?

I have a model 3DR and think it's really nice.
The only thing I can complain about is my unfamiliarity with the locking system being behind the nut. It just looked strange to me.

I have an 1986 model 3a. I swapped the j-80 bridge pup out for a screamin deamon, but left the neck j-80 in place. Great playing guitar very well built, but I don't like how the selector switch is set up.

I've had two Model 3s, an 86 and what I think was an 88. They were both very good guitars, very well made. I liked the Jackson Floyd copy on the newer one over the Kahler from the 86 model, but the Kahler wasn't that bad.

I don't generally like the H/S/S configuration, though, which is why they aren't as high on my list as a Model 2 or even a 3A.

But that 86 Model 3 was my main guitar for about a year and a half (when I got a USA Warlock).

The behind-the-nut locking system was a Kahler thing, and I don't know why Jackson continued to use it in '87-88 even after they introduced the JT-6 Floyd copy. Even Kahler made an actual locking nut by that point, I believe.

This reminds me of one of the funnier things I've seen on a Jackson. There is a San Dimas Rhoads hanging on the wall at a store in this area that has a Kahler trem, and Jackson oddly installed the string-lock *over the top of the truss rod cover*, rather than cutting the cover short to fit!! This means that the screws holding down the string-lock are partially exposed. What a strange thing for a custom shop to do--somebody there must not have had their coffee that morning...

i've got a model 3 and a model 3a and love both of them.

best bang for the bucks.

these guitars are more solid and better biult than most new guitars in there price range. <350.00 plus you get a basswood body instead of a poplar. i love the jackson floyd jt-6. the fact that the tuners are behind everything is really nice. you don't acidently palm mute yourself out of tune. and the necks are killer! granted i don't like the locker behind the nut either but its really the only downfall of the whole line.

bottom line = you won't find me selling either of my model 3's... ever!
