  • how are the MIJ Charvel Models for quality?

I am thinking about ordering a 2003 (Model A PLus pro). Looks like a good deal and everywhere I go to try to find some owner ratings say it's a good guitar for MIJ. This model has a list price of about $1300-1500 , so I would guess a street price around $700-800....The closeout price I am looking at is under $400. Main trouble I have is it online , so I would be doing sometiing I never like to do, buy without playing.

Ordering it for my son (14YO been ,playing about 6 months. He's into shredding heavy stuff now, but I'm sure he's settle down a bit in the years to come..LOL. He's currently playing a nice '92 Mexican Strat, thats he's learned to appreciate a bit more recently. He's playing through a Crate GLX1200 half-stack that he loves. He's been looking at the BCRich NJ Warlocks(YUCK!)....I am looking for somehting that he can get the same (or better) sound from and he'll be very ahppy with in 5-10 years also (NOT the Warlock as I think he'll grow out of the look).

OK.....I'll admit it, if he doesn't like this guitar I'm gonna keep it myself. Just for my home enjoyment as I am not very good after 30 years of playing..LOL. Funny thing is my son is a third generation guitar player and I think the talent skipped by me...because he was doing things after two months that I still can't do.

Anyway thats the background, if anyone owns one of these models or has info on them please let mw know what you think of them before I buy.

I bought a Model A in Dec. I love it! Ebony board, SD pups, nice feel to the neck. It is my second favorite next to my SL1. I've been thinking about buying a Model A Plus too, at these prices they are hard to beat. BTW I purchased mine on-line also w/ a 45-day guarantee. That way I could ship it back if I didn't like it.

I think $400 would be a great price for a Model A Plus. I think they are definitely worth that. I have one, the quality seems to be pretty high on it.

Being a lefty, I never get to try anything out. Make sure that it's a reputable dealer. For that price you can't go wrong. Just piece out the componants. That alone would be worth it. I have heard that the Jap Charvel/Jackson stuff blows away the Ibanez in the same price points. Plus you are getting great pickups in this guitar.

Plus those goofy shaped BC riches are problably pretty hard to play while sitting down and practicing.

If he doesn't like it you can always keep it for yourself. Go for it!

I think AMS was blowing these out at some decent prices. They might be pretty dry by now though as the catalog came a couple weeks ago. As with most online order outlets, they have a 45 day return policy if you're not happy with the purchase.
