ok so i finally had a chance to play a Charvel, i wasn't expecting this perticular guitar to play as great as people say about the original 80's Charvels. But i was really dissapointed by this guitar the sound wasn't too great and neither was the playability of it. Does any one else feel the same about these guitars?

Re: Model A plus
Steve,
I can tell you I just got a Model A (not the Plus) and it is GREAT !!! I'm very surprised you're saying that about the Model A Plus. I was going to get one because I'm so impressed by the one I have. Maybe you just got a lemon off the rack.

Re: Model A plus
I have a Model A also. I think it has to be the best buy for the money right now and I absolutely love it. While the pups are a little hot for my taste the feel of the neck is perfect. I was considering picking up an A Plus too. I really love the feel of this guitar.

Re: Model A plus
Heaven! The neck is thin and feels great. The string spacing is wider than a SL1 'cause of no binding on the neck. It feels great to me but you may like a thicker neck. Best thing is to try it for yourself

Re: Model A plus
Finally got mine this weekend, after geting a jackson sent to me by mistake. It was coming from American Music supply as a scratch & Dent for $380. Someone at the whearhouse has put the wrong sticker on it, so after a few minutes of arguing over the phone last week, they agrred to send me the Charvel A+ model for the $380 price. I have to give them their props here as AMS came through again for me here.
As for the guitar itself, well as I said in another thread my son is actually a better player than I am. But we both like this MIJ model. The action was pretty good right out of the box, even though neither of us had any idea how to tune or use the FLoyd Rose, thanks to some online research we had it tuned and my son was cranking out the heavy crap an wipping the wammy bar around right away. A few hours later I went down and re-tuned the guitar (which wasn't too far out after all th abuse) and got in some clean playing to get a feel of the PU's.
I Like the pearly gates for the clean sound and i'ts fairly good. The 'il Scremin' whatevers are better suited for the high gain stuff my son plays for sure.
The neck feels pretty good and my son said he thought is was pretty fast. I don;t know beacuse I play slow old songs anyway!
after looking over the guitar a bit I could only find one fault...so far. on the back where the plates(don't know what else to call them) connect to the body. there needed to be a little bit of paint added overlapping the edge. Where the plate is you can see a bit of unpainted (looks primed) area. Like I said it' snot on the surface of the guitar but on the edge where the plates fasten. The guitars balck so a little black marker will fill it with no problem and it's on the back anyway.
Overall I am pretty impressed with the quality of this guitar for under $400. My SOn wanted to try to down tune it a whole note and after trying it ( and a little more web research) we realised with the Floyd Rose we would have to re-adjust the springs. At that I told him IF he wants to keep this guitar (his choice as I can play his Mexican Strat at home), he should take it to a shop and get a pro to adjust the Floyd rose for drop tuning. But then i tuned it back up and it never missed a beat.
we played it on a Behringer "Blue devil" 65Watt amp this past weekend. I am interested in my son trying it on his Crate GLX 1200 head to see if he gets any fret buzz when he cranks that monster up.

Re: Model A plus
I though about buying that S&D guitar from AMS. It was black and I was unsure of buying a S$D guitar since I have never bought one. I didn't know what to expect. I noticed it was gone so I guess you got it. It sounds like a pretty sweet deal.

Re: Model A plus
well all the websites had it listed ( I swear they must all go to the same master wharehouse). But like I said the box had a Jackson DXMG i think it was in the box. Not sure about the model anymore, but I looked it up and it was a $650 list price guitar. The Jackson had a ding in it right near the input jack. I would have taken the Charvel with that nick on it, by the way.
All the website were showing the smae one as scratch & Dent. So I guess it was the only one. If you are looking at this Model Charvel, i'd say it's worth the $469 they are asking for them new out of the box. Like I said it was set up pretty good out of the box. IF you've dealt with the Floyd Rose (which I didn't think it wassupposed to have, BTW) then you'll be fine.
Keep checkin AMS for them to lower the price on thses discontinued guitars if its too much at $469, they may keep lowering the price to clear them out.
one more thing I was in the local Jackson dealer shop saturday. They had a Jackson on the rack that was the same guitar as the A+. Same pickups, same floyd Rose trem, just a different headstock (Reverse Jackson). Even was made in Japan, so I assume at the same factory. I couldn't find the guitar listed at Jackson's website, so it may be a couple years old..oh yeah it had flame inlays on the fretboard. he ahd a $699 street price on it, said it listed at over $1000.

Re: Model A plus
I've been playing floyds for years and I own a Model A look ^ at the pick above. I was wanting to check out an A+ but not willing to part with the 469. I know they are worth it but I really don't need another guitar. I just want more guitars
