I'm picking up a Fusion Deluxe today from the Pawn shop (got him talked down to $160 for it). Its in pretty decent shape - the neck is straight, the frets are in good condition, minimal rust on the hardware, etc. It even has the maple fretboard! However, the body is painted seafoam green, which is bad enough on its own, but it's got some pretty big chips missing from the back. My intent is to completely refinish the body.
My question is: is there any good reason to try to keep one of the "factory" colors? I'm seriously considering veneering on a flamed maple top and binding it with some figured maple I've got. I know without a doubt that it could look really cool. I figure it's a cheap guitar to start with, so if its not 100% original, I'm not throwing money out the window. Also, I can't see a ~'90 import Charvel being worth more than about $250 in any form - or am I wrong here?
Any opinions?
By the way, this will be my first Charvel since my 375 Deluxe was stolen last year!
Thanks,
Jason
