  • Real flame or photo flame

    I don't believe I've ever seen any literature saying either way about the flame on the Model 375dlx and the 475dlx. Some of those guitars have some killer flame on them.

    No photo flame on C/J's until the mid 90's when they came out with those "gravure" tops for a couple years.

    Gravure = Jacksonspeak for photo-flame

      I was never sure. Thats good to know. When you look at the orange 375's they all appear very similar almost identical.

        I believe they're real... I don't think they did any faux flames or quilts on Charvels. I believe it was just a few Dinkies...

          Hi Guys. What a great site. My 375 dates to 1991. I think. Ser 330xxx. Confirm? Looks like real flame to me. Is it? I read that the scallop on the top of the body was an option. Correct? Thanks, fett

            Yes, it's a very, very thin but very real bit of maple, purely for cosmetic reasons. As Greg said, the Jacksons from 96-98 or so suffered the 'gravure' tops, but the are also long gone now.

              Ps. A 375 in amber burst with maple/maple neck is a killer combo. Saw a couple last year on ebay and was sorely tempted to import one of them.

                Does anybody have any pics of a J/C with a fotoflame finish? I've never seen one.

                Also... has anyone ever had a fotoflame done aftermarket?

                  Wouldn't his 375 date to 93 with that ser#?
                  Really? well screw Mark Twain.

                    Re: Real flame or photo flame

                    Charvel production ceased in '91, so no. The serial # on bolt-ons apparently isn't an accurate way to date them. By '93, Jackson imports were using serials starting with 9.
