• Which model Charvel is this?

Hi, I just won this guitar on eBay, but I am not sure what it is.

It looks exactly the same as a 650XL I played a few days ago, except the 650XL has S-S-H configuration. (and that it has a third knob)

On another thread on the General Jackson/Charvel board, many of you said that this could be a 750, can anyone confirm that?

Thanks.

That is a 750 XL. You can tell because of the arch top, reverse sharfins, and scallops on the horns that allow for better access to the upper frets. If you look closely, you can tell that it is a short scale as well. They are damn fine guitars. I picked one up a few weeks ago. Some on here claim it is the finest Charvel ever. They were made for one year in 1989. If it is in as good a shape as it seems, that is a mighty nice price for it. Enjoy!

Nice score!!! I checked that one out too. But figured it would go higher than that! I'm too tapped out right now after buying my Shannon. But it was worth it. That guitar does look sweet!

I am a happy man now

Travis: a 24 fret short scale? Does that mean it's like a LP scale neck with two extra frets tacked on?

Cool, have never heard of any other guitars with this design. How does it affect playability, sound, etc etc?

Wulfe13: I am new to this forum so I am still not familiar with many Charvel models... so... what's a Shannon? But whatever it is, I am glad you just bought it, or I wouldn't be as happy as I am now

Moshwitz: I knew there are probably many on this board that would snatched it pretty quickly, so I had to keep it somewhat quiet...

Leo: A Shannon is a limited edition Jackson Soloist hand made in 1998 by Mike Shannon. Mike Shannon has been at the Jackson custom shop since the very beginning. I posted pics of my guitars last week at this thread My Guitars
The red guitar is a Charvel Model 6 made in 1986. The Black on is the Shannon, check out Mike Shannons signature on the back of the Headstock.

That is exactly what it is, a 24.75" scale just like Gibson but with 24 frets. It is one of the most comfortable guitars I've played. It has avery similar feel to my 650XL which I've had for 12 years. So, the transition from standard to short scale was not a big problem for me. Plus, I have short, stubby fingers so the reach is not as dramatic from fret to fret.

Also, if you didn't know, the 750 XL is set neck, not neck-through. A lot of people make that mistake because of how clean the heel is. It is not like Gibson's set neck where you get that bulky joint that seems to get in my way at the top.

The sound is nice and beefy due to the thick mahogany body and neck and thick maple top. It seems that it was basically Charvel's answer to the Les Paul, but in a superstrat profile.

I've got a pair of EMG 89's in my 750 and it sounds absolutely fantastic. I usually throw Duncans in all my guitars, but I like the way this one sounded with the EMG's so I kept them.

Enjoy this one, and if you ever want to get rid of it for some reason, throw a shout my way.
