Model 6 or 650XL in flame top?

I was just on EMG's website, and they recommend the 25K pots, saying the pickups may not operate properly otherwise. Has anyone used stock pots with EMG's?
I listened to the clips they have of the 81's and the 85's, and perhaps it was the recording or the playing, but the 85's definitely had a fuller, richer tone.
I'll have to wait until I get the 650XL to try the stock Jackson's , then decide. Although I have a Boss GT-8, and that thing can make an average guitar sound great!
I recently played an ESP KH2 with 81's, and thought it sounded very good compared to passives.

I prefer the sound of an 85 in my Baretta as opposed to the 81, but it certainly depends on the application and style of music.

I have a GT-8 as well.... love it.
