its possible. My 86 Model 3 #222365 didn't have a gasket. I'll have to look at a few plates to see if I see any difference...never noticed or really looked at them that closely

Model series neck plates
I think I have discovered a way of dating the model series Charvels. My 1986 model 3A does not have a plastic gasket. My old 1986 model 2 did not have a gasket. I recently saw an 1986 model 3 that did not have a gasket. To me it appears that the 86 model series did not have the neck plate gasket. For 1987 model series guitars they do have the gasket but look at the Charvel logo on the neck plate it should have a TM. The 1988 model series have the gasket, but beside the Charvel logo on the neck plate there will be an R instead of the TM. I think 1988 is when Jackson took the TM off of their headstocks not sure don't know much about Jackson.
I would like everyones help on this if you definately know the year of your Charvel or are the original owner test my theory. I'm either on to something or all of the baby shit diapers I have been changing has fried my brain.

Re: Model series neck plates
Checked it out. You can use a "TM" or "RM" to inform people your using the name. The "R" is official, meaning it's a registered trademark. Now, all you have to do is determine when Jackson/Charvel registered the trademark for it's guitar figure. LOL based on how hard it is to identify any Char/Jack guitar.I am a true ass set to this board.
