I'm confused!

Hey there. So back in 1991, I bought a used Charvel. The former owner told me it was a Model 4, but now I'm not so sure: I've looked it up in a few different vintage guitar guides, and there's no concensus. Some say Model 7, some say Model 6. The local music store people shrug.

Anyway, it's metal flake red. It has a bolt-on neck, one humbucker, two singles (all active electronics before I started replacing PUs) and a Jackson Floyd Rose-style bridge. Serial # is 237811, and it's a Fort Worth neckplate.

Any ideas?

Definitely not a Model 7, those were two pickups with passive electronics. Definitely not a Model 6, those were neck through the body guitars. Very likely a Model 4 though. Does it have 22 frets?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">It does have 22 frets and sharks tooth inlays. That's what started my confusion after all these years...one book said the 4 had dot inlays. Then again, everything in the books has been contrary to everything people have told me over the years. Just proves that you can't believe everything you read!

In 1986, the Model 4 had dot inlays. Subsequent years (87-88) have sharkfins. As Joe said, definitely not a Model 7. The Model 7 is a telly-style body.

What trem does it have?A Kahler flat mount its most likely an 86 JT-6 trem it will be a late 87 /88.Bolt on, sharks,active pre amp/mid boost 1 hum 2 singles sound like a model 4 to me

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">It's a Floyd Rose-licensed Jackson. From the sound of it, it is a Model 4, but made after 1986. Thanks!
