• Model 7 Info

Hi, I'm new to this Forum.

Anyway, I got my first Charvel a couple of days ago. It's a pink (Salmon Blush?) Model 7 telecaster with a bolt on neck.

I was wondering if anyone could give me some specs for the pickups, specifically the bridge pickups. I think I'd like to replace it with some kind of stacked humbucker - I've been looking at the SD Quarter Pounder and the Kent Armstrong Hot Lead or whatever it's called. Would these have a significantly higher output and more "humbucker-ish" tone to them compared to the stock pickups?
Or are these already high output pickups, and would I be better off getting a new bridge plate and putting a standard humbucker in there? I take it I would need to route the body to do this?

Would pickups designed for replacing Fender pickups fit in this guitar?

The stock pickups are J-120's and they use alnico V magnets. That's about all I know about them, my best guess is that they are tele sized J-100 single coils.

Welcome to the Board, Craig. I love my Model 7 and I have kept mine stock. They are nice guitars. I believe Tekky probably knows the most about them... he will be here shortly.

Someone call my name???

The pickups in the Model 7 are a J120 Jackson USA Telly Single coil and a J100S Jackson USA Single coil. Both are high-output pickups. As far as replacing them, I can't help you. I've kept mine stock for the time being. I've considered Seymour Duncans for it, but I just never committed to anything.

My Seymour Duncan Hot Rails should be here tommorow - so I'll let you know what it sounds like once I wire it up.

Got fed up with the single coil sound for the distortion stuff.

Let us know how they sound... and I still haven't seen any pics, yet?

I've been considering getting a stacked humbucker (hot rail maybe) of some sort for the bridge position on my Model 7. It doesnt hum much at high volume, but it does get a bit bothersome. I'm definitely gonna leave the neck single the way it is - the clean sound is just too good!

**SIGH** Too many projects at the moment to think about replacing the pickups in my Model 7 yet, but I do like the way the stock pickups sound though.

I really like the stock pickups, but the bridge isnt so great at high volumes with gain. When I replace the p/u, I'll shield it as well, hopefully that'll make an improvement as well.
