Re: eyeballing a Model 6....

I'm a friend of ZeNo, we both went to the guitar shop to check this guitar out...

It's true that the price is quite high, but again, here in Holland you see these Charvels rarely come by (wow, I think I have poet's blood ).
And one thing... The guy that offers his SL2H for sale for $887, we buy these things at around 2400 euros (ok in new condition, but still, this is around $3000), second hand maybe 1600 euros (if you're lucky...).
So if this Charvel is comparable to the American standard (such as SL1, SL2), then it must be definitely worth it's price...(but is it comparable to the American standard?).
We both tried various other Jackson guitars (DK1 plus some Performers) and they all were nothing compared to the Charvel...

It just isn't comparable what Americans and Europeans pay for the same guitars... You guys are just f******* lucky to live on that side of the ocean...

If you really want it, go get it!
Mine wasn´t cheap, but since i don´t plan to ever sell her, i think it was worth it.
I know i wouldn´t get my money back, but true love is priceless!

Re: eyeballing a Model 6....

did you guys look at german ebay?
here you´ll find some soloist, model 6, 650 and 750 charvels from time to time.
i bought a soloist archtop pro (with ebony fretboard, the good one ) over ebay.de for about 295.- euro!
watch out and take you a bit time, your deal will come.
but if you want the mod.6 you tried at the guitarshop, then get it! i think it is too much money for it, you´ll find a cheaper one if you watch out. may be not tomorrow, but you should find one.

The guitar prices there remind me of what the Japanese do to play golf. It is faster, cheaper and more available for them to fly to Hawaii than to play in Japan. That may be a stretch, but if played golf in Hawaii you would think it’s true. My point here is could fly to the States and buy 2 guitars, take them back and sell one to recoup your expense?
...that taste like tart, lemon yogart

Then you would make a very bad deal, cause here in Holland (I think everywhere) we pay to take these things in the country (I don't know the American word....).

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">you mean importtaxes, these are something like 23% on both guitar and shippingcosts over here.

Btw, that guitar, is that the one in Amsterdam? I heared dirk witte had a model 6 just like that with a wilkinsontrem on it and also for something like 800 euro's

If I may make a suggestion: try to contact Kaj of the american guitarstore in Enschede, he goes to the states from time to time to get some guitars, you could ask him to find one for you. I was thinkink of doing the same.

So are your airport security people so diligent that they'd know you didn't have the guitars when you left the country? I know you pay an import tax, but if you said it was yoour guitar that you took with you and are bringing back, could they prove otherwise? I'd say I took it over to do some recording and now I'm coming home. Could they prove otherwise?

Also, if you bought a Model 6 on US Ebay for say $400, shipped it for $200, and paid import fees of $92, that'd be $692, still saving almost $200. That's if your seller will ship overseas - Harrald's seller Chris's Guitars did, right Harrald? What was your cost to get it there, not counting the redo you did? Just price, shipping and import fees? Let us know.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">chris sent it by us postal and those costs were USD 93,-, but IF you do that, you really need that guitar to have a case, otherwise you will have at least 2 pieces of guitar in the box: the body and the neck.
I bought the guitar for USD 375,-, so that makes USD 468,- I had to pay 23% extra and had it then converted to euro's, which was at the time something like 1.11, so I had to pay in total something like EUR 550 if I remember correctly. and if I may say so, after modding, the sound was worth every penny of it. so getting it from the US is cheaper than getting it at dirk witte.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">this wont work...they take notes of the serial# etc which you have to show when you get back, otherwise you'll have to pay all the taxes...

i'll check out the possibility of getting one from the states, seems that its cheaper...
