That is correct; you'll have to excuse DonF, he is from New Jersey.

My pearl white Mod 6 is an '87, but I'd love to get a 6 with a Kahler on it!

Though I play other guitars on a gig. I love my 87' Mod 6. That's why I went hunting for another one, but I wanted an 86' with a Kahler. So I got one. Maybe in the future I'll go for a white one, cause i"ve seen pictures of them and they look cool. I may even try a USA Jackson, maybe a SL1 or Trans Black SL2H look cool too.

I want one of those lime green SL2H's they're trying to get a limited run for. That would make me pretty freakin' happy!
An '86 is more likely though, I'm thinking

OK, how should I introduce myself? Here's a start...

I live in Bay Area, CA, been playing on/off (mostly off, trying to get back on) for 15-20 years, grew up learning hair metal, have always wanted a Charvel/Jackson cuz that's what all my guitar heroes played. With a little more time on my hands now and feeling a little nostalgic, hope to find the right Charvel/Jackson. From the research I've done so far, it looks like I'm gonna start with a Charvel Model 6, but no reason to limit myself to just 1 Charvel/Jackson. Looking at some of these other beautiful collections in JCFonline has inspired me to start building my own collection.

Current Guitars:
1) 1985 Kramer Pacer Imperial, Candy Apple Red
2) 1998 Gibson Les Paul Standard, Sunburst
3) 1994 Fender Stratocaster (American), Black
4) 1985 BC Rich Warlock NJ Series, Pearl White

Amp: Marshall Valvestate VS100R Combo (1x12)

The Model 6 is a wonderful instrument, and extremely well made. If you decide you don't like the pickups, just swap 'em out. You can't go wrong with a Model 6; it's what I judge nearly everything against now.

yeah, its a Kahler "Flyer" with a cheap tremolo bar that rests really high up from the bridge, don't like it at all. The best I can say about them is the flat-mount preserves the resonance lost from huge cavities of spring-based systems.

Bought it for $350 in 1985 at Sam Ash on W. 48th Street in NYC when all the salesguys were moonlighting wanna-be rockers with metal hair sprayed 3"-6" high & fully decked in leather studs... and seriously thought they were gonna be big stars, those were the good old days...

Ummm...my Model 6 used to be Blue. Serial 601353.

Joe is gonna kill me, but I bought it a bit banged up for a total makeover and re-fin, and it's STILL ongoing. Not a lot of work has happened in the last two years at least. I gotta get that project going. It's not looking so good these days....but when it's done, it will look amazing.

I actually prefer the Kahler flatmount equipped Model guitars over the JT-6 versons. The tone is thicker with the Kahlers. Every JT-6 guitar I've had, I have had to chuck the JT-6 trem and replace it with a real Floyd.

Also, Kahler flatmounts are not created equal. The ones with the steel rollers and cam sound brighter than the ones with brass parts.

Most of the guitars with Kahler flatmounts I come across these days need a LOT of maintanence to the Kahler. The biggest problem is seized rollers and rusted adjusting screws. When a Kahler is working right, it is a very nice tremelo.

Assume you're talking about the Kahler "Professional" models? Are they any different from the "Flyer" models that the 1985 BC Rich NJ Series came with?

Unfortunately, the EZboard isn't up anymore. There was a serial number thread dedicated to the imports, and a lot of facts, like this for example, were known.
