Since my axe was stolen once, and the serial removed, i´ll never know if it´s an early or late 86.
Apart from that i´ts in great condition, and the Kahler (Yes, i like it) looks brand new!

And this is her:

I have seen at least 3 Antique Whites on Eplay & one @ Geetar Satan.
I did not pull the trigger due to the Kahler.
My 87 is cool.

Back in the 80's I helped my friend pick out a
guitar for his little brother. I found a used
Model 6 that just killed and we bought it for
him.
He still has it and became a really good guitarist using it.

my guess would be between 9000 and 10000 made. I have never seen a c61xxxx above SN...

edit: stupid post: there were also model 5's made with a c6xxxxx number, so that would make under 9000 model 6's

Mine is C608475. Original owner, never gigged with, not a mark on her. She rarely sees the light of day. These model 6's are some sweet guitars. Be interesting to know how many were made.

C604594, not minty but not beat. Couple of small dings to wood, on the front unfortunately. The back's super clean, much more than the front. Dark metallic blue that's slightly prismatic. Gotta love 'em, they're great guitars. Sadly, any Kahler Pro
equipped model is probably worth less than the ones with JT-6s, unless maybe you had THE first one and it was mint or something. Other than that, the Floyd-style Model 6s probably go for $100-$150 more than the Kahlered ones.

Great when buying, not so great when selling.

that does not really make sense to me, if I had the choice I would have taken a kahlered model 6... I have always lived under the impression those were better than floyds. I am not such an abuser, and these are supposed to stay better in tune than the JT6 things, especially while doing a bend

That's very true, but most people prefer Floyds for whatever reason, so if you watch Ebay you'll see even San Dimas models with Kahlers go for less than their Floyded counterparts. I like the Kahler for the better stability when doing bends, and though Floyds will take more abuse for longer times without going out of tune, the degree to which the Kahler responds like a tunomatic when it's not in trem use makes me like it.

Of course I have other guitars with Floyds so I have the luxury of both types of trem, but if I could have only one I'd take the Kahler, with the moderate trem use that I do.

I've owned a couple of '86 Model 5 guitars, but never a Model 6. The Kahler has its advantages, but I never have cared for the tone of Kahler-ed guitars. Difficult to describe why, though...

sn# C604290, bought off E-Bay in 2001 for $400.
Switched to EMGs Sa/Sa/81. w/ Gain boost switch,& SPC knob.
I took off the black Kayler and put on a chrome one. It's that midnight metallic blue color. Plenty of dinks and scratches. I scuffed the back of the neck with scotch bright, very smooth now. Tuned down 1/2 step. I love the feel and sound of it. I play it more than my SL2H.
I think I'll get another someday.

Is this a Kahler-only thread? Mine's an '87 with a new OFR.

I had a white '86 model 6 in about 8.5 - 9.0 condition. I sold it to buy a digital camera.

I'll bend over for my a** kicking now...

I guess I have no real regrets; guitars come and go. If she would have been mint, I would have kept it.

I have a project Model 6 s/s/h with three microswitches, vol/tone, and a Kahler. It used to be cream, but is now getting a custom paintjob by a buddy and me. I'm making it black, with hot rod style (thin/thick/thin thin/thick/thin) racing stripes in purple/gold flip-flop, finished off with a sparkle clear coat. I'm painting the headstock in the same flip-flop. Anyone want to suggest what I should do for a logo decal? I'm thinking of logoing it a Jackson, just because it looks nicer and I never intend on selling it.

I love the sound of Kahler-equipped guitars, but I can see why the Floyd guys don't. A heavy metal base plate, bolted flat to the top of the guitar, gives you incredible sustainn with a thick, more midrangey tone. Floyd's only contact at the knife points on two posts, which means a cuting tone with pronounced highs and less sustain. It's all personal preference. I can also set a Kahler up so it will chirp like a Floyd, dive deep like a Floyd, and still stay in tune. It is all a matter of tweaking around with it until you find what works for you--there is a lot more room for individual customization with a Kahler.
