When I got 750 from a freind he had a Custom Custom in the neck and a JB in the bridge. I thought it was too muddy. So I Pulled the JB out
mved the Custom Custom to the bridge and put a J50b in the neck.
It now has tone and clearity. without being muddy and sounds awesome in the series paralel spots.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I agree with you. I have the stock J series pickups in my Model 5 and I have always loved the sound of them. Granted they're not the greatest for clean tones (they not bad in my opinion), but distorted they have the perfect metal tone for me. I also love how the neck pickup sounds for soloing.

I'm taking all the wiring out .. pots included instead of unsoldering the mess and starting from scratch. I'm installing push/pull 500k pots and trying a variety of pickups.. EMG's, SD pearly gates, custom custom, 59's, custom..as well as some dimarzio PAF models.

Bought my 750 new, have had the stock p/u's. I'm getting a little tired of them, so Ima goona pay close attetion to dis thread!

I think I'll be going with a set of Duncan Distortions. I've sold a couple of pickups already so now I can start looking for the Distortions to put in there. When they go in, the EMG's will be coming out and I'll probably list a classified for them.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Just a note that EMG's don't work properly with 500k Pots. Must be 25's.

I've found that the older EMG's, before the quick disconnect sound better. Could be my ears tho... [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

I have a Duncan Custom Shop EVH / 78 in the bridge.
I have a really old DUNCAN 59 in the neck.
No mid boost in it.

I am using emg's ala zack wild style. 81 neck 85 bridge. I had it as an 85 - 85 but I think the 81's are a little brighter and tighter in the bridge.
