  • Model 7 Neck Pickup Replacement

As I mentioned in a much earlier thread, I'm planning on replacing the non-stock bridge and stock neck pickups in my Model 7 with Fender Texas Teles. My concern is with replacing the neck pickup. I've noticed that most neck tele pickups have a "lip" on them (for the lack of a better term) that would seem to make it impossible to fit the pickup into the route on my Model 7. What's the solution for that? Can you just cut that lip off with no ill effects to the pickup itself?

you can buy 'tabless' pickups, need to order them that way, or you could get a fender lace sensor pickups, the have no tabs, but there are options out there.

On the Fender website, it appears that the neck pickup has no tabs, but from the angle, I can't be sure.

all of the lace senor pickups have no tab as far as i know, ive seen alot on ebay from both angles and seem to have just the rail, no more, i'm 99% sure that all of them have no tab, check ebay for more photos

Well, in case anybody finds this thread later, I found the answer by calling Fender directly. The neck pickup doesn't have that "tab" on it at all. It should fit into the route without any further modification.
