• Is this a good buy?

I went to Guitar Center after work today and saw a bright orange Charvel bolt on (Dinky body type), used for $450.00. It has a pointy head with huge cursive Charvel logo. Neck is unpainted, dot inlays, 22 frets, chrome hardware, rosewood board, Schaller bridge (spelling?), 1 volume knob that hesitates when turned, S/H pickup configuration, a 3-way blade type switch that needs to be replaced. The humbucker is covered and says "Jackson " on it. Although it looks old, the thing that I found amazing is that it has no scratch anywhere! The back plate is from Texas and the s/n is 331817. I was in a hurry that I did not get a chance to try it. Do you guys think that 450 is a bit high for this? Thank you very much in advance.

Sounds like an '89-'92 Chavel Fusion with a toothpaste logo unless the headstock is reverse, and yes.. it sounds like it is a high price. It's a mid range MIJ Charvel import regardless.

Not a Fusion with 22 frets.

Does it have a reverse headstock, scalloped heel and is the neck single slanted? If so, it sounds like a Predator. Even so, I wouldn't go over $250 for any bolt-on toothpaste logo MIJ Charvel.

450 is a bit steep, but then again, you did mention Guitar Center. I'd say tops would be tree-fiddy...

It does sound like a Predator. (remember, fusions had 24 frets) Try the switch again, you should find that it's actually a 5-way switch.. (unless it's been changed)

It's not a reverse head and the single pickup on the bridge is slanted. The switch is a 5-way but it was so messed up that the stops don't work anymore. Again, thanks for the replies. I thought I found something special. Oh well.
