• What year is my Model 4?

Sorry for ANOTHER post about this, but I would really like to know.

My model 4 has sharkfin inlays, rosewood fretboard, JT-6 tremolo, neckplate with Charvel(R) logo and gasket, and serial number 290018.

That would make me think that it's a 1988. But in the Charvel Strat gallery there is a white model 4 belonging to Chuck with serial 298658 (later than mine), listed as a 1987. Therefore I am unsure.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance.

While the higher serial # usually means a later build date. From the research done here on the board, it was gathered that the neck plates came from a big box in no particular order. When you finished a guitar, you reached in, grabbed a neck plate, and away she went.

I guess they never figured that somewhere down the road, a whole bunch of collectors and players would want to know this stuff

Well, the sharkies indicate that it's between a 1987 and a 1988 model year, which is what you already know. As far as being able to tell from a s/n, I have yet to believe that there's a strategy behind it.
