  • New Charvel owner! Model 2 pics

Hey everyone, just wanted to share a photo of my "new" Model 2. It arrived this weekend. It's my first Charvel but I also have a HRF DK2 with a Duncan Distortion. This thing is SWEET! It has a Duncan Screamin' Demon too. It sounds and plays fantastic.

I'll get an updated family photo soon.

    Congrats on your score!

I was under the impression that Model 2's didn't come stock with maple boards...

Does it have the behind the nut string lock?

Well, I hope it came stock with the maple fret board, I'm clueless. Hopefully someone can say for sure.

When you say "behind the nut string lock" do you mean the type of nut that has the non-removable blocks in the nut? If so, yes...but again this is my first older J/C product so any info would help.

The "behind the nut string lock" is the one on the rightmost Charvel headstock.

As your guitar has a JT-6 trem, I am assuming that it is an 87-88 model, most of which came not with a locking nut (as in the left and center guitars in the photo), but the "behind the nut string lock".

        Hope this helps!

Yes, definitely...that is what I have. So, more than likely the neck is from a Model 4 then???

most likely, although it may also be a modified Model 1 neck. Best way to tell is to take the neck off and look for stamps. The model designation should be found on the neck heel & in the neck rout.

I have an 88 Model 2 in the same color but with a rosewood board. I have the same Floyd as yours and also it has the behind the nut string lock. It's really a great guitar. Since I got it, I can't put it down. I put an EMG 81 in it and it screams. Have fun with it.

Here it is in my Charvel/Jackson "family photo."

                    Guitars:
Charvel: USA Pro Mod Slime Green
                    1988 Model 2,
                    Jackson: Dinky HSS 'Blue/Orange Flame'
                    RR3
Gibson: 1978 Les Paul Spl Dbl Cut
                    1992 LP Studio 'Lite'
                    2005 SG Special

well, that's all that counts! Plenty of guys here have mixed and matched parts to get the guitar they wanted. Check out the current "mutts" thread in Guitars From Other Manufacturers. There are a bunch of modded Models there. These are only imports, so it's not like you are really going to kill the resale value, and if the guitar plays killer, then play the shit out of that thing!

Plus whoever threw this one together has given you a pretty unique & cool "Model"

Considering how good this thing feels I don't know why people think they have to spend a ton of cash for a USA model (of any brand). I picked this up for just under 3 bills with a chainsaw case so I feel like I beat the system...which makes it even more fun!

                          I agree whole heartedly...

I had to mix and match two Charvels to make a maple boarded Model 3A.

I remember reading somewhere that Charvel released a maple board model 2 in Japan for a short while. Can someone confirm this or correct me?
