I've heard they had basswood bodies.

basswood was used for most of the Model series. So yup, basswood for the Model 1A

1A's rock. Just be wary, the swimming pool route is shallow, so unless you find short humbucker screws, you'll have to cut them down to size if you plan on ditching the single coils.
