Missed an auction on the Bay a week or so ago, Guy was from here..I bought a 5 a year or so ago and it was gutted basically before shipment..Thanks PayPal! Money and Guitar... Thinking of putting in a set of ZW EMG's I have laying around too..

Technically, it's a "want to buy" ad, which is a no-no until you can post in the classifieds. Not busting balls, just letting you know.

As for the electronics, full sets are not something you see too often for sale. The Model 5 had a pair of J80C pickups, the Jackson Special 5-way switch, and the JE-1200 midboost system. IMO, the only reason to get the midboost & the J80Cs would be if you had a burning need to return it to original. Probably wouldn't be too hard to get the parts separately over time off from eBay, but those pups really weren't very great (imo), and the midboost is a pretty subtle effect (only 6dB range). The switch is extremely cool, though, since it gives you lots of nice coil-splitting options. The good news there is that Stewmac, Guitarelectronics, etc. have very similar super switches. The ZW set would probably sound pretty awesome in there, if you like EMGs. My personal choice would be a Duncan Custom or Distortion in the bridge, & a '59, Jazz, or Pearly Gates in the neck along with a super switch, and just forget about the midboost. I put a Distortion / Pearly Gates in my 750XL with the Special 5-way, and it's been very hard to put down since.

I had a few of the Model 6's with original electronics. They sounded OK, but I think you would do much better with other pick-ups (like the Duncans that come on USA Jacksons these days).

The mid-boost really sounds good when using the single coils - it lets you go from a vintage strat kind of pingy sound to a fatter humbucker sound. When used with a humbucker, you don't notice the boost as much.

Yes, I also like the midboost with the J-200 "Single" Coils, but almost never use it with the HB's as it tends to muddy them up a bit.

You know I also re-read the rules and there is nothing in there about asking for something in a particular forum. The guy asked for the electronis from a model 5 in the charvel import section and if anyone had some.

Actualy the rules need to be cleaned up, there are alot in there that we do not need to worry about anymore, mostly pertaining to the classified section. Since now only the poster can reply to his own posts, there is no need for all the rules about replying to someones posts with negative or if I only had the cash type thing etc....

I'm not a rules whore, but he did say (paraphrased) "does anyone have some electronics they want to get rid of." To me, that is a clear solicitation for purchase. Now, I've got an extra mid boost just taking up space in my toolbox, and I could have responded to him in a PM that I have one for sale. To me, its no different than posting "I have $1,000 burning a whole in my pocket and I've been thinking about a soloist. Anyone have one they want to get rid of?"

Now I have officially spent way more time on forum rules than I ever wished to.

Oh I know what you mean, but you re-read the rules there is nothing about it in there about solicitating a sale or purchase in open forums, unless I am missing something.

I clicked the little Rules thing up top. Trust me I have been biting my tongue here too.

Yeah, I hear you - there probably isn't anything explicit there. It like driving in lane - is it 2 people or 3? I consider my car high occupancy when there's two people in it.

Well, Damn, I hope I haven't started something here w/ the rules..anyway, Thanks for your opinions and Info on the electronics. I am still undecided as what to go w/ I have a box of different P/U's and the Original Switch is still in the Guitar I think..The Idiot I bought it from tried to solder some shit in there and looks like a 3 year old had the Iron..Even burnt a place in the paint w/ the iron..looks lke he laid it down on it.. Will be a good project guitar though..I'm thinking the Original Black w/ some Polka Dots i.e. Rhoads or possibly the ZW SDMF Patch Logo..Thanks Again for the info
